It’s official: Spyro the Dragon is coming back in a whole new game.
Toys for Bob is releasing Spyro: A Realm Beyond on PlayStation 5 in Spring 2027. You can watch the announcement trailer here.
It’s been a long wait for Spyro fans – nearly eight years since the ‘Reignited Trilogy’ and almost 20 years since a brand new Spyro adventure (‘The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon’ in 2007). A new game is definitely long overdue.
One of the most significant updates in A Realm Beyond is Spyro’s ability to truly fly – he’s grown up a bit and now has full flight capabilities. Paul Yan, head of Toys for Bob, recently explained on Xbox Wire that this feature is central to the game’s new design.
According to Yan, the team’s primary focus is letting players experience the thrill of dragon flight with complete freedom. They want players to be able to take to the skies whenever they want and make engaging choices both on the ground and in the air. This feature is a major addition to the game, and the entire world has been designed to support that experience.
Other details are scarce right now, but it’s great to have Spyro back after so long.
