Okay, so huge news for fellow Cuphead fans! The team at Studio MDHR just announced they’re starting work on a brand new Cuphead game! And get this – it’s going to have that same gorgeous, hand-drawn animation style we all loved in the first one. They’re keeping details under wraps for now, but they did say a smaller team is already building it, which is super exciting. No word yet on when we’ll get a first look, but I’m already hyped!
The new game, called Mighty Cuphead Adventure, was shown off in a recent trailer (see it below!). It will have the same classic, fast-paced 2D platforming gameplay that Cuphead fans enjoy, but with a few new surprises thanks to its retro style. Like the original Cuphead, you’ll also be able to play with a friend in 2-player co-op.
Neither project has a confirmed release date yet. But based on how far along Mighty Cuphead Adventure looks, it could potentially be released later this year or in early 2027. Cuphead 2 is likely further off, and a release in late 2027 or even 2028 seems reasonable.
Originally released in 2017, Cuphead quickly became popular for its distinctive art style—reminiscent of old-fashioned cartoons—and its difficult but rewarding gameplay, featuring creative characters and bosses. In 2022, the game expanded with The Delicious Last Course DLC, adding a brand-new area to explore, complete with fresh levels, challenges, and boss battles.
