Do you remember genDESIGN, the studio created by Fumito Ueda, the director of ICO, and their mysterious game announced a while back? It’s now officially called gen ATLAS, and a new trailer just dropped showing a blend of story scenes, actual gameplay, and how the game is being made. You can watch it below!
Typical of games by Ueda, the story isn’t immediately obvious, but the world appears to be a broken landscape filled with the massive pieces of robots. Players control these robot heads, attaching them to different bodies to build mechs. These mechs can then be used to do things like move huge objects, even when the player isn’t directly controlling them.
A core part of any mech game is battling other mechs, and this one looks like it will deliver, even letting you knock their heads off! Beyond that, you can expect diverse gameplay – from driving land vehicles and fighting off chasing creatures, to a unique experience where you shoot targets while on a moving mech, similar to the game Shadow of the Colossus.
We still don’t know the full story or your specific goals, but the game is incredibly engaging and looks fantastic, despite a few minor performance issues. gen ATLAS will be released on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC through the Epic Games Store, which is also publishing the game. You can add it to your wishlist now.
