Considering everything that’s happened in the last day, it’s surprising to see a new trailer for Halo: Combat Evolved, especially one recorded on a PlayStation 5 Pro.
Rumors online indicate this video was originally intended for last week’s State of Play presentation, but Microsoft unexpectedly decided to remove it at the last minute.
The rumor began with a report in Chris Dring’s newsletter, The Game Business, which claimed Microsoft considered showing a game at Sony’s State of Play event but ultimately decided not to, reportedly upsetting Sony.
Although Dring didn’t specify the game he meant, The Verge’s Tom Warren pointed out that a ‘Captured on PS5 Pro’ Halo trailer would have been a perfect fit for Sony’s State of Play event.
We can’t say for sure if this was the original intention, but the sudden cancellation of Gears of War: E-Day appears to be another example of Microsoft frequently shifting its plans.
It’s easy to see why PlayStation was confused – they likely had to quickly rework their State of Play presentation, delay planned YouTube videos, and remove things from social media.
It would have been strange to show Halo at a PlayStation State of Play, so I’m not sure why Microsoft would have even planned to do so.
It all just speaks to a company that appears to be making things up as it goes along.
