Almost thirty years after the release of the critically acclaimed sci-fi horror film Event Horizon, its story continued in a new comic book series from IDW. Event Horizon: Inferno, which came out in April, jumps forward two hundred years and follows a rich businessman and his crew as they try to recover what’s left of the Event Horizon spaceship. But when they find the ship’s engine still works and seems intent on opening a dangerous portal, a terrifying situation quickly unfolds.
ComicBook is giving fans an exclusive preview of the third issue of the horror comic, Event Horizon: Inferno. This issue, roughly the halfway point of the five-issue series, continues the story from writer Christian Ward (who also penned Event Horizon Dark Descent). Picking up where the last issue left off, with Lieutenant Starck – the sole survivor of the Lewis and Clark spaceship – we now get a more detailed look at the terrifying situation she finds herself in.
Hell is a Loop in Event Horizon: Inferno #3

The preview pages show Starck facing terrifying creatures and gruesome violence. However, the true horror isn’t the bloodshed itself, but the fact that she never truly dies and can’t escape. She’s trapped in a never-ending cycle of death and rebirth, experiencing a literal hell on Earth.

IDW describes this new comic issue as a terrifying return to the Event Horizon, a spaceship built to push the boundaries of space travel. After two centuries of abandonment, the ship has become a gateway to Hell, where those trapped inside are forced to relive their deaths endlessly. Prepare to discover a horrifying truth: Hell isn’t just a place, it’s a repeating cycle. The story is written by Christian Ward, with artwork by Rob Carey.

We don’t know what terrifying revelations this new issue holds—the previous one deepened our understanding of both Daniel Durante’s disturbing reasons for acting and Skylar’s difficult past—but it’s clear things are about to get even more intense. The thought of the people on the Event Horizon being stuck reliving their final moments for centuries is genuinely frightening, and it will be compelling to see if they can escape, or if their situation will only deteriorate further.
Event Horizon: Inferno #3 hits store July 1st.
