Several heroes have wielded the power of the Green Lantern in the DC Universe, and their abilities vary. Though not DC’s most famous hero, Green Lanterns have consistently been important to DC’s overall story. Despite past unsuccessful attempts to bring the character to the big screen, the upcoming TV show Lanterns promises to showcase multiple Green Lanterns within the new DC Universe. Before the show premieres in August, DC has confirmed the existence of several different Green Lantern heroes within the DCU.
Figuring out just how strong each Green Lantern should be in the DC Universe means looking at how they’ve been portrayed in comics and other stories. While there’s no official power ranking, most fans agree on who the strongest Green Lanterns are. Here’s a look at the Green Lanterns confirmed for the DCU so far, ordered by how powerful they should be.
5) Ch’p

The recent trailer for Lanterns revealed Ch’p will be part of the DC Universe, which wasn’t entirely unexpected given the franchise’s history. Hal Jordan jokingly refers to one of his Lantern colleagues as a “squirrel,” clearly hinting at Ch’p’s appearance. Although Ch’p is a surprisingly strong hero, he’s likely the least experienced when it comes to facing major cosmic threats, as the other Lanterns have already proven themselves against those kinds of enemies.
4) Guy Gardner

Nathan Fillion joining the cast of the 2025 Superman movie as Green Lantern was a major highlight for fans. He’ll be playing Guy Gardner, a famously strong-willed and resilient member of the Green Lantern Corps. While Gardner is certainly powerful, he isn’t quite as strong as some of the other Green Lanterns already planned for the DC Universe.
3) John Stewart

John Stewart, a key character in Lanterns, is poised to become a standout hero in the new DC Universe. He’s consistently ranked among the greatest Green Lanterns, praised for his incredible focus and self-control. Unlike other Lanterns, he can create exceptionally intricate and powerful energy constructs, and his strength has been showcased in many epic cosmic adventures, establishing him as one of the most powerful heroes in the DC Universe.
2) Sinestro

Ulrich Thomsen will be playing Sinestro in the upcoming series Lanterns, bringing the iconic DC Comics character—Hal Jordan’s former mentor and now enemy—to the DC Universe. Sinestro is known as a master of both green and yellow power rings and is often considered one of the most powerful Green Lanterns ever. However, the DCU should be careful not to make him the most powerful Lantern.
1) Hal Jordan

Hal Jordan is often called the greatest Green Lantern, and he’s the version most fans know and love. In the comics, he’s consistently shown as the most powerful, with unmatched willpower. He’s demonstrated incredible cosmic power many times, making a strong case for being one of the Green Lantern Corps’ strongest members. Given his history, it’s likely Hal Jordan will remain the most powerful Green Lantern in the DC Universe.
