5 Major Spider-Man Villains That Need to Be in Spider-Noir Season 2

Fans have high hopes for Season 2 of Spider-Noir, widely considered the best live-action Spider-Man TV series to date. In the first season, Nic Cage played Ben Reilly, a hero known as ‘The Spider,’ who protected the city from the dangerous gangster Silvermane (Brendan Gleeson) and his crew of superpowered villains, including Sandman (Jack Huston), Tombstone (Abraham Popoola), and Megawatt (Andrew Lewis).

A major appeal of Spider-Noir was seeing familiar Spider-Man villains reimagined within its unique, noir setting. With a second season potentially on the way, many villains could be adapted, but which combination would work best?

We’ve picked 5 Spider-Man villains who we believe would be perfect for a second season of Spider-Noir, and we’ll explain why they’d be a good fit.

5. The Lizard

Dr. Curt Connors is a heartbreaking example of good intentions gone wrong. A war medic who lost an arm in combat, he devoted his life to researching how to regrow lost limbs. Unfortunately, an experimental serum he tested on himself, containing reptile DNA, didn’t restore his arm – it turned him into a lizard-like creature.

The show Spider-Noir will explore a blend of classic Film Noir and the monster movies popular in the 1940s. Season 2 will pay tribute to those classic creature features, and the villain The Lizard is a perfect fit. The Lizard’s origin story aligns well with Ben Reilly’s backstory, and the character offers a great combination of science fiction and horror that can be reimagined in the style of those vintage monster films.

4. Tarantula

Tarantula is a Spider-Man villain who’s been portrayed by several different characters in the comics – at least six! While the specific person wearing the Tarantula suit changes, they’re usually depicted as a hired gun or assassin with a spider motif. The earliest versions of the character, Anton Miguel Rodriguez and Luis Alvarez, featured storylines centered around South American politics, including revolutions, harsh regimes, and terrorism. These Tarantulas also stood out with bright, eye-catching costumes and weapons inspired by spiders, making them formidable foes for Spider-Man.

Season 2 of Spider-Noir could benefit from a mysterious assassin working for the main villain, fitting the show’s gritty and dangerous atmosphere. The origin of Ben Reilly’s powers – being bitten by a spider-like creature created in a lab – also suggests that Tarantula could have similar abilities, either from the same experiment or a later government project. With a recent appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Tarantula is gaining popularity, and Spider-Noir could be the perfect place to develop the character more fully and give him a unique twist. A particularly intriguing idea would be an assassin who uses a signature “spider bite” method of killing.

3. The Rhino

The Rhino villain has appeared in two Spider-Man movies – The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Kraven the Hunter – but both attempts fell flat. However, the upcoming Spider-Noir film seems to have just the right lighthearted tone to make the Rhino character truly shine.

The series could reimagine the villain with a fresh take, similar to how they handled Sandman and Tombstone. They could portray him as a Russian mobster with enhanced strength, tougher skin, and incredibly dense bones – someone who can powerfully charge into objects, or even break through them. A little bit of science fiction involving rhinoceros DNA could explain his abilities. And, if they wanted, they could even bring Paul Giamatti back for the role! Seeing him act alongside Nic Cage would be a truly memorable television moment.

2. Doctor Octopus

It would be exciting to see a Doctor Octopus story that truly embraces his name! Imagine a 1940s monster movie version of Doc Ock, which would fit perfectly into a second season of Spider-Noir. This Otto Octavius could be a classic, slightly crazed scientist—the one behind the creation of creatures like the Lizard and Rhino—who eventually reveals he’s the monster, complete with four real tentacles.

A classic, 1940s-style gangster shootout between Spider-Man’s web-shooters and Doctor Octopus’s ink blasts would be fantastic, particularly if filmed in black and white. Doctor Octopus also makes a perfect villainous partner for another Spider-Man enemy, fitting well within this dark, noir-inspired universe.

1. The Jackal

If the show Spider-Noir is moving towards featuring monstrous villains in its second season, Professor Miles Warren – also known as The Jackal – would be a fantastic choice. This character hasn’t yet appeared in any live-action adaptations. Professor Warren was a highly intelligent, but deeply disturbed, scientist specializing in genetics and biochemistry. Driven mad by the death of Spider-Man’s girlfriend, Gwen Stacy, at the hands of the Green Goblin, he created the persona of The Jackal and dedicated himself to destroying Spider-Man’s life.

Warren is best known for cloning Peter Parker, first creating Ben Reilly, and then a whole series of Spider-Man clones including Kaine and Gwen Warren (a clone of Spider-Girl). In the Spider-Noir universe, he’d be the villain pulling the strings behind Doctor Octopus and responsible for the monsters plaguing the city. Initially, Miles Warren might seem like an ally, assisting Ben Reilly in understanding his abilities and origins. Similar to later storylines, Warren could also have a monstrous side, transforming into a human-Jackal hybrid.

The Jackal’s appearance could lead to a fantastic post-credits scene for Spider-Noir Season 2, introducing Ben Reilly as the “Scarlet Spider” clone. And the idea of Cage playing a double role in Season 3? That’s something fans would definitely enjoy!

Spider-Noir is streaming on Prime Video.
