Every Year After Stars: Where You’ve Seen the Cast Before

I’m already counting down the days! Summers will never quite feel the same again because Every Year After is finally here! It’s based on Carley Fortune’s amazing book, Every Summer After, and the series is coming to Prime Video on June 10th. The best part? All eight episodes drop at once, which means a perfect binge-watching weekend is officially planned!

The story unfolds over six summers and one weekend, following Percy Fraser (played by Sadie Soverall) and Sam Florek (played by Matt Cornett). Percy returns to Barry’s Bay, a Canadian lake town she’s avoided for years, for Sam’s mother’s funeral. Being back brings back a rush of memories about how her relationship with Sam evolved from friendship to romance, and ultimately, how it ended.

Okay, so things are getting really messy. Seeing Sam with someone else is… difficult, to say the least. It just brings everything back, you know? But it’s not just the new relationship, there’s this massive secret hanging over everything, and it’s the one thing stopping Percy and Sam from finally dealing with their past. It’s killing me, honestly, knowing they can’t just talk about it!

Adapting a popular book for television can be really challenging, but Soverall and Cornett were excited to take it on. “We definitely felt the pressure,” Soverall explained to TopMob News, “but because the author, Carley, was so involved and the adaptation stays true to the book, it actually made the process more fun and eased our concerns.”

As a huge fan, I’ve been completely captivated by the new adaptation! One thing that really stood out to me was how they handled a major reveal – I won’t spoil it, but it was brilliantly done. What I really loved, though, was the way they mirrored Sam and Percy’s stories across their childhoods and adult lives. They showed them in similar situations, but from completely opposite perspectives, and the way it was filmed – cutting back and forth between them – was just masterful. It really highlighted how, despite everything, their core experiences remained the same even as they grew up. It’s so rewarding to revisit this story, and it’s fun to see some familiar actors too! If you’re curious about where you might recognize the cast of Every Summer After, keep reading!

Before landing the role of Persephone “Percy” Fraser in the Amazon Prime Video series Every Year After, based on Carley Fortune’s novel Every Summer After, Sadie Soverall was known for her part as Annabel in Saltburn. Her other film roles include appearances in Finding Emily, Arcadian, Little Bone Lodge, and Rose Plays Julie. She’s also been in the TV shows The Gathering and Fate: The Winx Saga.

Matt Cornett plays Sam Florek, Percy’s childhood friend and eventual love interest. While this role is new for him, many will recognize him as E.J. from High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. He’s also appeared in Buster Brooks, Summer of 69, Karma: Death at Latigo Springs, and Zombies 3.

If you recognize Aurora Perrineau, who plays Percy’s close friend Chantal as an adult, there’s a good reason! Besides being the daughter of actor Harold Perrineau (known from Lost and Romeo + Juliet), she’s been in a number of popular shows and films. You might have seen her in When They See Us, Kaos, Westworld, Prodigal Son, or movies like Abraham’s Boys, Equals, It Takes Three, Boo!, and Truth or Dare.

I’m such a fan of Abigail Cowen! She’s amazing as Delilah, Percy’s best friend, and it’s cool to know she’s already worked with the director on Fate: The Winx Saga – she was brilliant as Bloom in that! And honestly, you’ve probably seen her before – she was in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, The Ritual, Redeeming Love, and Witch Hunt. I even remember her from season two of Stranger Things – she played Vicki, one of the students at Hawkins High!

Joseph Chiu plays Sam’s best friend, Jordie. You might recognize him from roles in shows and movies like Motorheads, Fear Street: Prom Queen, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, and The Miniature Wife.

You might recognize Michael Bradway – he’s Sam’s brother, Charlie. He’s been in a few shows and movies, including Marked Men, Chicago Fire, and Safe House.

Elisha Cuthbert, who plays the mother of Sam and Charlie, often seems like someone you’d know from around the neighborhood – and there’s a good reason for that! She famously starred in the movie The Girl Next Door. You might also recognize her from TV shows like Happy Endings, 24, and The Ranch. Her other film credits include Monster in the Family: The Stacey Kananen Story, House of Wax, Bandit, and The Quiet.
