Cancelled Nickelodeon Series Returns With Surprise Renewal

With the possible merger of Paramount/Skydance and Warner Bros Discovery, fans are worried about the future of Nickelodeon and its popular cartoons. The European Union might force Paramount to sell Nickelodeon and its shows, leading to questions about where characters like SpongeBob SquarePants and Rugrats would end up. Interestingly, one show that was previously canceled on regular TV is now being revived thanks to a surprise renewal on Paramount+.

Many people may know that Dora the Explorer was recently reimagined as a CG-animated series simply called Dora, which first appeared in 2024. Even though it’s only been on the air for a little over two years, the show has already produced five seasons with more than 100 episodes. News recently surfaced that Dora was cancelled, alongside Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, due to the merger between Paramount and Skydance. However, in a surprising turn of events, Paramount+ has announced that Dora will return for a sixth season! A release date hasn’t been set yet, but it’s great news for fans of the series.

Dora Will Return

The latest Dora the Explorer adventure is now streaming on Paramount+. Although it’s quite different from the classic Nickelodeon show many grew up with, it still captures the same adventurous spirit. Considering the franchise has already had a live-action movie, it’s no surprise Dora is continuing to evolve and stay relevant. If you haven’t seen this new take on Dora, Paramount describes it—and announced its renewal for a sixth season—on their website.

Dora is an animated series featuring Dora, a bilingual explorer, and her monkey friend Boots! Together they go on exciting adventures in a magical rainforest. With help from Map, they solve problems and avoid obstacles – but they always have to watch out for Swiper the sneaky fox!

First appearing on Nickelodeon in 2000, Dora the Explorer has become a long-running favorite, much like SpongeBob SquarePants. The original show lasted eight seasons and spawned both a live-action movie and several spin-offs that broadened its world. Shows such as Go, Diego, Go! and Dora And Friends: Into The City solidified Dora’s popularity, and the recent renewal suggests a promising future for her new CG-animated series.
