Who Is Actually Rascal Randy?

One enjoyable aspect of this issue is trying to figure out who Rascal Randy really is. However, as the original comic showed, the person inside the costume isn’t the most important thing. While it might seem odd to then explore the character’s backstory in a new series, the contrast actually works well, and I couldn’t help but carefully examine every panel for hints.

The story works well because we’re given multiple possible suspects – Lilly and Eli both seem capable of being the killer known as Rascal Randy. This potential is layered with their shared history and past trauma, creating a complex dynamic. A final surprise at the end adds another layer to the mystery, making it truly captivating.

Rascal Randy Has Never Looked So Wonderfully Deadly

This issue immediately impresses with its fantastic art by Burnett and Bellaire, complemented by Carey’s excellent lettering. Together, they’ve created a visually stunning book with a unique style, and when the character Rascal Randy takes center stage, the creative team expertly builds suspense and delivers genuinely unsettling moments.

One specific scene with the swing is especially memorable, but later on, the story beautifully shows how much of an effect the mascot has had over time—even in a seemingly harmless environment, it’s still scary! The book consistently includes unsettling images, even when the mascot isn’t the main focus.

I especially loved the early conversations between Eli and Lilly. They really helped me connect with both characters before we even suspect one of them might be the killer. I’m already invested in their friendship and what they’re going through, which makes the eventual reveal of the killer feel even more impactful.

It would have been easy for a backstory focusing on one of the book’s villains to fall flat, but “Rascal Randy” avoids that completely. Instead, it delivers a fascinating look at several interesting characters and gives readers a deeper understanding of one of the most surprising and disturbed figures in comics.

Exquisite Corpses: Rascal Randy #1 hits comic stores on July 8, 2026.
