Released in 2002, The Bourne Identity, directed by Doug Liman and written by Tony Gilroy and William Blake Herron, centers on a man with amnesia who discovers he was once a highly skilled CIA assassin. Adapted from the novels by Robert Ludlum, the story follows Bourne as he’s pursued by his own government, which wants to silence him and hide its own secrets.
What Matt Damon’s Bourne Comments Could Lead To
The Jason Bourne film series has a complicated history. The original three movies were huge hits, but the fourth film, The Bourne Legacy, starred Jeremy Renner instead of Matt Damon. It was directed by Tony Gilroy, who had previously written the screenplays for the first three films. Matt Damon returned in 2016’s Jason Bourne, with Paul Greengrass directing again – though Gilroy wasn’t involved this time. That has been Damon’s final appearance as Jason Bourne so far. Later, a TV series called Treadstone explored the same world, but without any connection to Damon, Gilroy, or Greengrass.
I’ve been a huge fan of the Bourne movies for years, and it’s incredible that the five films have already made over $1.64 billion worldwide! If Matt Damon came back for another one, he’d be right up there with Tom Cruise as one of the longest-running action heroes in the spy world. A lot of companies like Netflix and Apple were interested, but NBCUniversal ended up winning everything except the publishing rights. They clearly have big plans for Jason Bourne and Treadstone, and I can’t wait to see what they do with it!
