Now that Masters of the Universe is popular again with its new movie, fans are curious about the future of the animated series on Netflix and whether a third season is planned. Writer Tim Sheridan recently spoke with ComicBook about the show’s prospects. While the movie didn’t perform well in theaters, most reviews have been positive, particularly regarding how fans responded. As for the Netflix series – which included Kevin Smith’s Revelation and Revolution – there hasn’t been much news since the second season concluded in 2024.
Tim Sheridan, who writes the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: The Wings of Fate comic, says he’s aware of what’s happening with the TV show. He revealed that a third season has been planned, but no one has picked it up for production yet.
Will Masters of the Universe Return to Netflix?

Taylor Sheridan confirmed a third season is written but hasn’t announced if it will be made. He explained there’s still an unfinished part to the story, and its future depends on audience demand. He joked that if they don’t produce it soon, Kevin Costner might end up performing the storyline live on stage.
Sheridan mentioned that Kevin Smith frequently shares stories during his live shows, and these performances are particularly engaging. Smith also created the Masters of the Universe: Revelation series with Netflix, intending it as a continuation of the original He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoon. The show featured Mark Hamill as Skeletor, Chris Wood as He-Man, Sarah Michelle Gellar (later replaced by Melissa Benoist) as Teela, and Lena Headey as Evil-Lyn. Smith oversaw the series as showrunner, and the first two seasons, consisting of 15 episodes released in three parts (July 2021, November 2021, and January 2024), are now available.
The second season, Masters of the Universe: Revolution, concluded with He-Man ending the monarchy on Eternia and establishing a democracy. Andra planned to run for its first elected leader. Meanwhile, He-Man and Teela began a romantic relationship, Evil-Lyn allied herself with Zodiac’s forces, and Despara retrieved Hordak’s body hoping to bring him back to life. While this created potential for future stories, another season doesn’t seem likely in the near future. According to Sheridan, if a third Masters of the Universe season isn’t produced soon, Kevin Smith might share all his story ideas during his next stand-up comedy tour.
