The highly anticipated X-Men ’97 premieres on Disney+ July 1st, and early reactions are incredibly positive! The first season earned a remarkable 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, along with a 91% audience score – making it one of Marvel’s best shows to date. While we’ll have to wait for the new season to see what viewers think, initial reviews are even more enthusiastic than those for Season 1. Keep in mind that these scores may shift as more reviews come in.
Season two of X-Men ’97 has received perfect scores from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviewers particularly loved the introduction of the character Apocalypse, with many believing it was even better than the show’s already excellent first season.
X-Men ’97 Looks to Be a Perfect Follow-Up to the Revived Series

I was completely blown away by the first season of X-Men ’97, and it really set the stage for something huge! It didn’t shy away from tough storylines, like the devastating Genosha Massacre where we lost characters like Magik and Gambit – the trailer for Season 2 even showed a memorial for them, which was so impactful. That season ended with the X-Men scattered across time, and now, Season 2 looks like it’s going to throw them right into the thick of the ‘Age of Apocalypse’ as they struggle to find their way back to each other and their own time. I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds!
The show will also explore storylines like Magneto removing Wolverine’s adamantium skeleton and the introduction of Feral Wolverine. There’s potential for Apocalypse to assemble a new team of Horsemen, possibly including Wolverine and Gambit – characters who previously shared the role of Death in the comics. Marvel has been successful at maintaining secrecy around the main plot, so what exactly will happen remains a mystery even after seeing the initial trailers.
The reviews are in, and the show is a hit! Critics are saying the new season is even better than the first, which already received a lot of praise. Earlier this year, Wonder Man also earned high marks, with 91% positive reviews from critics and 87% from audiences. WandaVision remains popular with a 92% critic score and 88% audience score. Even Ms. Marvel, which critics loved with a 98% rating, doesn’t quite measure up. Considering the scores for both seasons, it’s clear that X-Men ’97 has set a new high standard for Marvel shows on Disney+.
