For decades, the Final Fantasy games have introduced us to countless heroes. Over time, some of these characters have really stood out with their incredible abilities – they’re so powerful that they overshadow everyone else! If you were to pit the strongest heroes from Final Fantasy against each other, these are the ones most fans would bet on.
Here are the six strongest heroes in Final Fantasy history.
6) Cloud Strife – Final Fantasy VII

That sword looks incredibly heavy – it takes real strength to even lift it! Despite appearing thin, the main character in Final Fantasy VII is much stronger than he seems. He used to be a top-level fighter with SOLDIER, an elite military group known for its powerful warriors, and Cloud quickly became one of their best.
He’s famous for defeating Sephiroth, a major villain in the Final Fantasy series. Cloud utilizes the Materia system from FF7, making him a powerful fighter with devastating attacks like Omni-Slash. While he may not have powers as extraordinary as some other characters, he’s still incredibly strong.
5) Terra Bradford – Final Fantasy VI

Unlike more recent Final Fantasy titles, Final Fantasy VI doesn’t center around a single hero. Because it’s one of the last games to really emphasize the whole group of characters, you might think no one character would steal the show. But you haven’t met Terra Bradford yet.
Terra is a unique being, part human and part Esper, granting her extraordinary magical abilities. When she enters a deep trance and fully becomes an Esper, her powers are significantly amplified. While not as powerful as the gods in this world, Terra can stand toe-to-toe with many of the most formidable characters from the Final Fantasy series.
4) Clive Rosenfield – Final Fantasy XVI

Clive, much like Cloud, is a skilled swordsman, but his real strength comes from his ability to summon Eikons. Unlike typical Final Fantasy summoners, Clive doesn’t just call upon these beings – he becomes them. Since Eikons are incredibly powerful demigods, watching Clive transform and wield their power is truly a sight to behold.
Clive isn’t considered one of the strongest characters in Final Fantasy XVI because he can only summon and control one Eikon at a time. While he’s definitely powerful enough to defeat most enemies, this limitation holds him back compared to others.
3) Noctis Lucis Caelum – Final Fantasy XV

For example, Noctis has the ability to call upon a wide range of incredibly strong summoned creatures – thirteen Kings of Yore and five Astrals, all at once. While Clive’s Eikon is certainly powerful, it’s difficult to compete against an entire group of summons with comparable strength.
While a lot of Noctis’s power comes from the Ring of the Lucii, you could say his true strength is inherited – a part of who he is by birth. That feels like a technicality, so I still think he easily earns this ranking. And let’s not forget, he can teleport all over the place like the X-Men’s Nightcrawler, which is a definite plus!
2) Lightning – Final Fantasy XIII

The Final Fantasy XIII games have a mixed reception among fans, but most agree that Lightning is one of the most powerful heroes in the entire series. This is largely due to her role as Etro’s champion, granting her the ability to defeat and destroy gods.
Some people might say Lightning isn’t truly powerful herself, but simply using the abilities of Etro. They’d argue she doesn’t have this power naturally. But that’s really just a matter of how you define it. Ultimately, both Clive and Noctis operate in a world of demigods, and Lightning is exceeding even their level of power.
1) The Warrior of Light – Final Fantasy XIV

Is it unfair to include this? Perhaps, because it’s difficult to picture any other character being more powerful than your own in Final Fantasy XIV. While a case could be made for Final Fantasy XI, I decided against having two MMO protagonists on the list. Ultimately, the player characters in both games are exceptionally strong and easily claim the number one position.
It’s true that it isn’t a completely even comparison. If Lightning had as many games to grow in as the Warrior of Light, she’d likely be just as strong. But she doesn’t have that opportunity, and in Final Fantasy XIV, players have accomplished incredible feats – they’ve defeated despair itself and even frightened the gods.
