Among Netflix’s recently released original animated films, one title has rapidly emerged as the platform’s most-watched animated original movie ever, drawing a large audience in the month following its premiere. In recent years, Netflix has expanded its collection of new animated originals, particularly catering to anime fans with an uptick in licensed content and self-produced works. The same trend can be observed across other animated productions on the platform. However, one standout title from this Summer has continued to grow in popularity since its initial release earlier in June, showing no signs of abating.
Initially introduced by Netflix on June 20th, the movie “KPop Demon Hunters” rapidly soared to the top of their Top Movies list in the U.S. and numerous international countries. The film’s success with the streaming service has only grown since then, earning it the title of Netflix’s most-watched original animated film ever. Take a look at Netflix’s announcement acknowledging “KPop Demon Hunters”‘ remarkable achievement below.

KPop Demon Hunters Takes Over Netflix
In less than a month since its debut on Netflix, “KPop Demon Hunters” has amassed over 26 million views, rapidly ascending the Top Movies chart and sparking widespread word-of-mouth buzz among fans. As more people become curious about the film, they’re not just watching it once but rewatching it multiple times. This popularity has also extended to achievements outside of Netflix, particularly with its soundtrack.
Netflix has entered the original song “Golden” for award nominations, and given its success on the Billboard Global 200 chart and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart since the movie’s release on streaming platforms, it’s not hard to see why. The track has even claimed the top spot on the Billboard Streaming Charts for all-girl groups, making history. What’s more, this achievement comes from a fictional group, HUNTR/X, which serves as the soundtrack for the film and has been breaking numerous records with its central trio representing the music.
Will KPop Demon Hunters Get a Sequel?
Fans are already clamoring for a second installment of “KPop Demon Hunters” following its successful run on Netflix. Although the storyline seems to hint at further adventures involving HUNTR/X and their expansive demon-fighting universe, there’s currently no official announcement about a sequel from Netflix. If one does materialize, it might be some time before we see it on our screens.
As an onlooker, I’ve witnessed the intriguing journey of KPop Demon Hunters, a project that Sony Pictures Animation initially unveiled in 2021 as being under development. Over these years, it seems the dedication and effort poured into this creation have been met with enthusiasm, and fans appear willing to wait for as long as necessary for a follow-up. With Netflix’s most viewed original animated film title now under its belt, and the pace suggesting it could potentially surpass even the most popular original movie on their platform, a sequel might very well be in the pipeline.
