Ed Sheeranis thinking out loud.
During his June 13th concert in Glendale, Arizona, the 35-year-old artist announced he’s planning to take a break from making music after he finishes his current LOOP Tour.
After the tour finishes, Ed Sheeran said in a social media video, he’s planning to take some time off to focus on being a father.
Although some fans might be surprised, the singer, who has two children – 5-year-old Lyra and 4-year-old Jupiter – with his wife Cherry Seaborn, has often hinted at the challenges of being on tour and how it affects his family in his music.
In his song “Regrets” from the album Play, he sings about a child who doesn’t understand why he has to leave. The lyrics express the child’s fear that he’s leaving for good, stemming from countless phone calls and goodnight wishes. He reflects on needing to finish his tour, but questions the reason behind it all.
Despite the challenges, the singer of “Perfect” made an effort to balance his career with his personal life throughout his Mathematics Tour. The tour lasted three years, running from April 2022 to September 2025.
Sheeran went as far as moving his family to the US for a while so his children could be near him while he was on tour.
He explained on The 2 Johnnies Podcast that he’s moving with his family for an extended period due to an upcoming tour. He said they’ll be fully relocating and won’t be able to travel back and forth frequently.
As someone who really values a balanced life, I’ve always said that family is everything. For me, things just work when my loved ones are close by. It’s not just about being near them, it’s about feeling that connection and support – that’s what truly makes life fulfilling.

He shared on the October 2025 episode of the YouTube series Last Meals that he’s very happy with his work. He especially loves performing live and writing songs, and at this point in his career, he has control over his tour schedule so it works well with family life.
Although Ed Sheeran is still actively working, here’s a look at other celebrities who have chosen to take a break from public life…

Following a serious heart attack in 2019, the actor known for The Mask of Zorro returned to his hometown of Málaga, Spain, where he could dedicate himself to performing onstage.

The Tony Award nominee, who still acts in television and movies sometimes, now owns a theater and actively participates in local events.
He went on to say he’d never felt happier, explaining it helped him stay connected to his background, community, and the people he grew up with. That connection hadn’t faded at all – in fact, it had grown stronger over time.

I was absolutely devastated when The Ellen DeGeneres Show finally ended in 2022! Nineteen seasons – it felt like a lifetime with her! But honestly, it was so much more than just the show ending. All those reports about what it was like working there… a toxic environment, they said. It was awful hearing about it, and then seeing executives fired and everyone getting upset. It just completely overshadowed everything, and it broke my heart to see the show go out like that.

Ellen and her wife, Portia de Rossi, now live in the Cotswolds. Ellen shared with Richard Bacon in July 2025, during a chat at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham, that they decided to settle there permanently in November 2024 following Donald Trump’s reelection.
She raved about the English countryside, telling the BBC it was “absolutely beautiful” and unlike anything she was used to. She particularly loved the charming villages, towns, and architecture, noting it seemed to offer a more relaxed and simple way of life.
Honestly, it’s just… perfect here. Everything is better! The animals are so well cared for, and everyone is genuinely kind. I’m completely obsessed! We moved in November, which wasn’t the best timing, but I finally got to see snow – it was magical! We seriously love it here. Portia brought all her horses, and I’ve got my chickens running around. We even had sheep for a little while – about two weeks, it was amazing!

She explained on Today with Jenna & Friends that her business had initially focused on providing ice cream for places like airlines and cruise ships, and she’d been traveling to Australia frequently to oversee production at a large facility there. She quickly fell in love with the country during her visits.
Banks also realized Australia was a promising market for her product, noting that Australia, along with America and New Zealand, are the biggest ice cream-consuming countries.

Eva Longoria, known for her role on Desperate Housewives, has moved away from Los Angeles and now splits her time between Mexico and Spain with her husband, José Bastón, and their son, Santiago. She explained to Marie Claire that while she spent her adult life in Los Angeles, the city had changed, and the pandemic pushed her to leave. Issues like homelessness and taxes also contributed to her decision, though she doesn’t want to criticize California.
Longoria clarified in an interview on The View: Behind the Table that her move wasn’t politically motivated by President Trump’s election. Instead, it was driven by her work, starting with filming Land of Women in Catalonia and continuing with Searching for Mexico and further projects in Spain. She’s been living there for years and dislikes the idea that it’s been turned into a political issue. She acknowledges her privilege in being able to leave, expressing anxiety and sadness for those who aren’t so fortunate. Despite the move, Longoria remains busy with recent roles in Only Murders in the Building and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip.

Lindsay Lohan is frustrated by the ongoing speculation surrounding her departure from Los Angeles. She recently explained that a demanding work schedule and constant partying during the 2000s were often overshadowed by intense media attention. In a March 2024 interview with Bustle, she expressed annoyance that paparazzi coverage seemed to take over the narrative, eclipsing her professional accomplishments. Lohan felt this unwanted attention was a major reason she wanted to step away from the public eye, hoping to shift the focus back to her work. She subsequently moved overseas, initially to London and then Dubai, and even started opening beach clubs in Greece, but a desire for a more private life was also a key factor in her decision.
Lindsay Lohan wondered if she’d ever find love, questioning if it would ever happen for her. She realized she needed to focus on herself, and once she did, opportunities started appearing – things she truly wanted to say yes to.
She eventually found love with Bader Shammas, marrying in 2022 and welcoming their son, Luai, in 2023.
Though they currently live in Dubai, Lindsay hasn’t left acting behind. She’s continued to star in films like Our Little Secret, Irish Wish, and Freakier Friday.

Josh decided to leave Hollywood after realizing he needed a change of pace. He explained to People magazine that the film industry isn’t just a location, but a way of life. Being constantly surrounded by work talk felt limiting, and he wanted more variety in his experiences.
He shared that he always sought connections with people involved in different pursuits – things that would challenge him personally and broaden his horizons, which he considers essential for a fulfilling life. As a result, Josh, along with his wife Tamsin Egerton and their four children, moved to the Hampshire countryside in England.
In an interview with The Guardian, he noted how quickly time flies when raising a family. He feels that while life may seem slower-paced now, it’s filled with more of what truly matters. Despite the move, Josh remains active as an actor, having recently appeared in films like Verity, Fight or Flight, and Trap.

She expressed gratitude for her life and explained that choosing a meaningful path, even if it means sacrificing conventional success like wealth and fame, can be daunting, but ultimately leads to a much more satisfying life.
However, she’s not ruling out a return to Hollywood completely, saying, “I could see myself going back someday, but right now, I’m happy where I am.”

I’ve been missing Paul Wesley on screen ever since V-Wars on Netflix back in 2019! But honestly, what he’s been up to is even more impressive. Jennette shared in her 2022 memoir, I’m Glad My Mom Died, that she regrets many of the acting roles she took early in her career. She described feeling embarrassed and unfulfilled by the work, calling it ‘cheesy’ and ’embarrassing.’ Having started on shows as a young teenager, around age 13, she was already self-conscious about her career by 15, noting that her peers didn’t view her Nickelodeon appearances with admiration.
She hasn’t ruled out returning to acting completely. In an interview with TopMob News in October 2022, she explained that writing her book helped her consider acting in a new light, free from past pressures. She suggested she might explore it again if she were to write a role specifically for herself, as that could be the only way she’d feel comfortable doing so.

It seemed like a pretty easy decision. The chance to marry Prince Harry, devote ourselves to meaningful charitable work, and wear the Queen’s stunning tiaras would make leaving Hollywood completely worthwhile.
Similar to Grace Kelly’s transition from Hollywood to Monaco, Meghan Markle left her life and acting career in Toronto, including her role on the show Suits, to join the British Royal Family. Now that she and Prince Harry have stepped down as senior royals and live in California, Meghan is returning to professional life. This includes a production deal with Netflix, where she released the docuseries Harry & Meghan in 2022 and plans to launch a lifestyle show, With Love, Meghan, in 2025. She has also started a podcast and launched her own brand, As Ever.

After starring in over 40 films since she began her career with The Mask in 1994, the actress really needed a rest once she finished filming Annie in 2014.
She told Gwyneth Paltrow that she realized she needed a change in her life. After years of intense work and filmmaking, which she described as exhausting, she wanted something different. Making movies demands complete dedication – long hours every day for months – leaving no room for personal life.
Cameron Diaz had many interests beyond acting, including writing – she followed up her successful book The Body Book with The Longevity Book, and starting a family with her husband, Benji Madden. Although she told InStyle magazine in 2019 that she didn’t miss performing and was focused on wellness, there were hints she might consider returning to acting for at least one more project.
Oh my gosh, you guys wouldn’t BELIEVE how hard we had to work to get Cameron Diaz back! Jamie Foxx told TopMob News that we were practically begging – seriously, on our knees! – saying ‘Please, just give the fans one more movie!’ We all adore her, and have been waiting forever for this. It’s going to be absolutely incredible when Back in Action hits Netflix in 2025, I can feel it!

The actor stated firmly that he wouldn’t return to the show Empire after completing his five-year role. When asked by Extra about what he planned to do next, before the sixth and final season aired in 2019, Terrence Howard said, “I’m finished with acting; I don’t want to pretend anymore.”
Despite appearing in a few projects since then, the Academy Award nominee announced his retirement from acting again in 2022 while promoting his Peacock series, The Best Man: The Final Chapters. He explained to Entertainment Tonight that he felt he’d given his all as an actor and now wants to focus on watching and supporting new talent, rather than simply repeating performances he’s done before.
Even with those earlier concerns, Howard has continued to act, appearing in shows like Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist and the Netflix movie Shirley. He also has several new projects planned.

After his character, King Joffrey, died on the show in 2014, Jack Gleeson—who was 21 at the time—decided he wanted to stop acting. He told EW that he’d been performing since he was eight years old and simply wasn’t finding as much joy in it anymore.
Jack isn’t a child star anymore, and some of the excitement has faded. He explained that turning a hobby into a job changes things. ‘Before, it was just something fun I did with friends or during the summer,’ he said. ‘I still like it, but making a living from it feels different. It’s not that I dislike it, it’s just not what I want to do as a career.’
Oh my goodness, after SIX YEARS away, he was BACK! I nearly fainted when I heard he’d joined the cast of BBC’s Out of Her Mind in 2020. And it hasn’t stopped since – he’s been in Rebecca’s Boyfriend, In the Land of Saints and Sinners, even TV shows like Safe Harbor and The Famous Five! Seriously, I’m trying to watch everything he does!

Kline shared this arrangement with Playboy magazine.

However, he remains incredibly popular – the strong reaction to news of an assault on him in New York City in 2020 proves that! Fortunately, fans will soon see him back on screen alongside Josh Gad in Disney’s upcoming reboot, Shrunk.

She told Vogue that most acting roles require a lot of intimate scenes, and she wasn’t interested in pursuing those types of parts. She explained that while she and her husband had a solid relationship, she needed a truly exceptional role to justify taking on potentially challenging or uncomfortable material.
After her son Martin was born in 2014, joining his sister Louisanna, she firmly decided to step away from acting. She told Us Weekly in 2016 that she now prefers to focus on being a mother and supporting her husband Jimmy Kimmel’s work, occasionally painting as a hobby. “I’m completely out of the movie world,” she explained. “I’m just a mom and an outsider. That’s really why I stopped.”

She’d built a strong resume with roles in popular shows like Ally McBeal, Nip/Tuck, Arrested Development, and Scandal. After those experiences, the Australian actress felt she might be ready for a change in direction.
Turning 45, she started thinking about trying something completely new and challenging. As she shared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2018, she had a good idea of what her acting career would look like for the next decade or two, so she decided to leave it behind and start her own business.
Her company, General Public, which creates art for everyone, was almost complete – she just needed to finish one last piece.
I spoke with Mitch Hurwitz, the creator of Arrested Development, and told him I was done with acting, so I wouldn’t be in a potential season five. He was very understanding and supportive, and we had a good talk. Surprisingly, he ended up writing me into five episodes anyway.

It’s understandable why, after winning three Oscars, an actor might consider their career complete. Following his sixth Academy Award nomination for his 2017 film, Phantom Thread, Daniel Day-Lewis announced through his representative that he was retiring from acting. The statement expressed his gratitude to those he’d worked with and his audiences over the years, and clarified that this was a personal decision, with no further comments to be made.
Just as Daniel Day-Lewis had decided to retire from acting, his son brought him back for one more project. In October 2024, Focus Features revealed that the Academy Award winner would star in Anemone, a film he co-wrote with his son, Ronan Day-Lewis, who will also be directing.

After finding fame on Good Luck Charlie, she stepped away from acting in 2018 to focus on her education. She went on to earn both a master’s degree and a PhD from MIT, and later attended Harvard Law School.
