The Apothecary Diaries Returns With a Brand New Release Ahead of Anime Sequel

Fans of the popular anime The Apothecary Diaries can now immerse themselves in the world of the Imperial Court with the new game, The Apothecary Diaries Palace Chronicles. Following the conclusion of the anime’s second season and announcements of a third season and a movie, this highly anticipated game lets you step into the shoes of Maomao and solve mysteries within the palace and beyond. The game is a simulation that runs right in your web browser – no downloads needed! You can play on any device, including phones, tablets, and computers. You’ll nurture Maomao’s skills, investigate incidents, and even team up with other players to collect and cultivate medicinal herbs.

The game features a total of 35 characters, including the main characters Maomao and Jinshi, as well as Gaoshun, Loulan, Gyokuyou, and others. Pre-registration started on July 29th, 2025, on the G123 platform, and comes with rewards for players as they progress. Currently available only in Japan on G123, the game is launching globally soon. What’s Next For The Apothecary Diaries Anime?

Following the end of Season 2, a trailer hinted at more to come, but details about Season 3 are still limited. The new season is scheduled to premiere in October as part of the Fall 2027 anime releases. Like the first two seasons – which each had two parts and covered one book volume per part – we anticipate Season 3 will follow a similar format. Season 2 wraps up the storyline from Volume 4, set after the unsuccessful rebellion of the Shi Clan.

I’m so excited for the next season! It’s going to be really interesting seeing how things change after everything that happened in Season 2. With the birth of the crown prince, Gyokuyou is definitely going to gain more influence at court, which is fantastic for her. It’s a bit sad about Loulan leaving, leaving the position of Pure Consort open, but I’m sure the story will fill that gap well. And the best part? Jinshi and Maomao are still teaming up to solve mysteries! The trailer showed they’ll be heading to the northern farming villages for their next case, and I can’t wait to see what they uncover!

The anime is getting its first movie, scheduled to come out in Japan in December 2026. The story will be brand new, written by the author of the original novels, Natsu Hyuuga, and won’t be based on any existing material. Currently, only the Japanese release date is known, but international fans can look forward to news about a theatrical release or streaming options after it premieres. Fans are also eagerly waiting for official trailers for both the third season of the anime and this new movie.
