Put Echoes of Aincrad: Sword Art Online to the Test in Lengthy PS5 Demo, Out Now

Good news! The downloadable demo for Echoes of Aincrad: Sword Art Online is now live on PlayStation 5, as we announced. The file size is approximately 20GB. (Updated June 16th, 2026, at 11am)

This demo lets you explore a sizable environment and experience plenty of combat. It’s a great preview of the full game, which comes out next month, and you’ll even get to try out all the different weapons.

Just keep in mind this demo doesn’t let you create a character; you’ll play as a pre-made one, and there isn’t much ability to level up or improve things. You’ll be able to fully customize your own hero when the complete game comes out.

Considering what we’ve seen, Echoes of Aincrad: Sword Art Online appears to be the most expansive Sword Art Online game created so far, and definitely the one with the largest development budget.

It will be really interesting to see what people think of the game when the playable demo comes out. The demo launches on PlayStation 5 next Tuesday, June 16th.

This is ahead of the full game’s release on the 10th July. It’ll be here before you know it.

We don’t yet know exactly what the demonstration will feature, but it likely showcases a portion of the game from the beginning – similar to what journalists have already seen.

Good news about Echoes of Aincrad – early reviews are very promising! Critics especially like how much freedom players have to explore and that the game emphasizes teamwork.

The fighting could use a little polish to feel more powerful, but generally, people are really excited about this game.
