I absolutely love collecting vintage toys, but it’s not as simple as just buying them! They can be really expensive and quickly take over your house. Honestly, even if you can afford them and have the room, you’ve got to actually take care of them. What’s the point of finding a toy in perfect condition if you’re just going to let it fall apart? I make sure to clean mine regularly, touch up any chipped paint, and store them safely. Plastic toys are pretty tough, but the ones with that older latex coating? Those really need a lot of attention and careful handling to keep them looking their best.

Back in 1994, Illusive Concepts created a life-size Yoda figure made of latex that was very popular with Star Wars fans and is now highly sought after by collectors. Unfortunately, because it was made of latex, most of the original 9,500 figures haven’t survived in great shape. Some up for auction have damaged ears or faded paint – one even looks like it’s been through a lot! However, at least one collector has managed to keep their Illusive Concepts Yoda in perfect condition.

Star Wars Fan Shows Off Near-Perfect Illusive Concepts Life-Size Yoda

A Reddit user named Appropriate_Exit6728 shared a photo of their Yoda collectible, and it’s remarkably well-preserved. The collector has clearly taken great care of it, keeping the original plastic packaging to protect the latex from damage. They explained in the post that they used to work at the Illusive Concepts factory where these Yodas were made, and even helped with some finishing touches on them. This experience likely explains how they’ve kept it in such good condition for so long.

It’s really remarkable how well-preserved this Yoda model is, especially compared to others we’ve seen which are falling apart. It appears to have never been taken out of its original packaging – and still includes the certificate proving it’s genuine! If they ever decide to sell it, they’re sure to get a high price because of its excellent condition.

This story is charming because the collector likely encountered many damaged versions of this model while working at Illusive Concepts. Witnessing how easily these models could be broken probably taught them exactly how to preserve their own in pristine condition. Protecting the model isn’t just about its packaging, but also where it’s stored – damp or dusty areas will quickly cause it to deteriorate.
