Famitsu, a well-known Japanese gaming magazine, is marking its 40th year in publication. The latest issue focuses entirely on the PlayStation console.
The magazine covers games for all consoles, but has always given a lot of attention to Sony’s PlayStation systems – starting with the original PS1 in 1994. It’s natural, then, that they would want to celebrate the brand within its pages.
This issue features a fantastic cover inspired by the classic game PaRappa the Rapper, which remains incredibly popular in Japan. You can often find temporary shops and branded clothing related to it there.
It’s also got an interview with CEO Hideaki Nishino and a gorgeous Astro Bot double-spread.
You can find imported copies of Famitsu magazine at Play-Asia. This issue is a double issue, meaning it’s longer than a standard copy.
Whenever I visit Japan, I always pick up a copy of Famitsu magazine. It’s amazing how much they manage to fit into each issue, considering it comes out every week.
Even though a lot of the magazine reads like advertising, it’s great to see Japan still has a weekly gaming publication with so much coverage. The UK doesn’t have many left these days – I still read Retro Gamer each month, though.
