A beloved game series from the early 2000s that many played on PS2 is making a comeback with a new title set to launch on October 30th. Unlike its predecessors, which were initially exclusive to the PS2, this latest installment will be available across multiple platforms. This includes Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. As of now, there’s no confirmation about a Nintendo Switch 2 version, but if it does not materialize, the game can still be played on the new Nintendo console via backward compatibility.
Around the mid-2000s, a relatively unknown action-adventure series was produced by Etranges Libellules, a French studio that might not ring a bell since it operated from 1994 to 2012, a span of nearly two decades. To put it simply, the studio has been closed for about 13 years now. Despite it not making a comeback, some of its work continues to thrive.
As a dedicated fan of the Asterix series, I’m excited to share that I’ll be embarking on another adventure with my favorite Gauls in the new game, “Asterix & Obelix: Mission Babylon,” set to drop on October 30 across various platforms. This isn’t our first rodeo; we’ve had previous encounters in video game form, starting with “Asterix & Obelix XXL” for the PS2 in 2003. While it eventually found its way onto other platforms, it was initially a PS2 exclusive. The same goes for its sequel, “Asterix & Obelix XXL 2: Mission: Las Vegum,” which was also launched on PC, but not until later years.
Since then, only a few smaller or restricted versions have come out, but none that made a significant impact. Consequently, Asterix & Obelix: Mission Babylon will likely be seen as a rejuvenation of the series by many fans.
The bearded duo is all set to depart Armorica and let their legendary blows resound across distant lands, as the game’s official description from Microids reveals. A fresh location, a group of Romans requiring firmness, and their unyielding determination remains undiminished!
As a gamer, I embark on an epic adventure: Leaving tranquil Armorica behind, my comrades and I are bound for the Parthian Empire’s outskirts, a legendary realm teetering on the brink due to Caesar’s relentless ambitions. Our objective? Rescue King Monipehni, who has been ensnared by a wicked concoction conceived by the sinister sorcerer Bahmbuhzeli. To triumph in our quest, Asterix and Obelix must traverse enigmatic landscapes, gather essential components for an antidote… oh, and let’s not forget to teach some arrogant Roman legionaries a lesson or two!
At the moment, there’s no information about pre-orders or the game’s price when it launches on October 20. As soon as we get updates, we’ll adjust the story accordingly.
