Battlefield 6 – EA Has No Current Plans to Start Charging $80 for its Games

As EA prepares to unveil Battlefield 6, there has been some speculation about the game’s pricing. Initial reports suggested that EA could increase its game prices, with Battlefield 6 potentially selling for €79.99. However, these rumors have been cast into doubt following a statement from CEO Andrew Wilson.

During the most recent earnings discussion (as reported by GamesRadar), Wilson expressed reluctance towards setting a $80/€80 price point, stating that significant alterations aren’t planned at this moment. Regarding whether Battlefield 6 will be priced at $80, Wilson replied, “At present, we have no intention of adjusting prices, although it should be noted that we already provide a wide range of pricing options across our diverse product lineup.

He clarified that our approach encompasses a wide range of pricing options, including free-to-play, premium products, and Deluxe editions. Our goal is to cater to our players effectively by providing them with the maximum value. We’re constantly seeking ways to enhance this value through different pricing strategies over time, but for now, we don’t anticipate any major changes.

In his own words, EA’s Chief Financial Officer, Stuart Canfield, addressed the question regarding pricing changes for the company’s games throughout the fiscal year, stating that there have been no adjustments made as of yet. Canfield further emphasized that Electronic Arts aims to prioritize providing lasting value to its player base, particularly with the launch of live service games, by focusing on long-term benefits rather than short-term profits.

In simpler terms, Canfield mentioned that we haven’t adjusted our pricing strategy differently during this financial year or changed our future expectations, considering the large scale of our live service. Instead, we remain highly attentive to the lifetime value of our players as a primary focus.

According to rumors, it’s speculated that the prices for Battlefield 6 will vary across platforms. The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions are said to cost $80, while the PC version might be slightly cheaper at $70. Additionally, there’s talk of a Phantom Edition, priced at €109.99 for consoles and €99.99 for PC. This premium edition is expected to be a digital-only release, offering in-game items that can also be purchased separately through a Phantom Pack.

Last week, EA publicly introduced the latest installment in the Battlefield series, and a teaser trailer was released. Although specifics about the game were scarce, it was announced that it will primarily focus on modern combat scenarios, featuring both infantry and vehicles. The official title of this upcoming game has been revealed as Battlefield 6.

Further insights are set to emerge shortly, encompassing details about the open beta that Electronic Arts (EA) earlier announced, along with specifics on launch date and cost. The ongoing development of Battlefield 6 includes versions for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms. Additionally, it is anticipated to include a solo player campaign as well.
