As a gamer, I’m excited about the latest console’s potential power, especially when stacked up against a custom gaming PC. It’s intriguing to ponder the expenses involved in constructing a PC that can rival our desired console’s performance, using brand-new components straight off the store shelves. However, do keep in mind that the costs of these parts are subject to change over time due to market fluctuations.

CPU 

Sony significantly enhances its previous model’s CPU capabilities, particularly in single-core performance, by a substantial margin. The PS5 features a custom chip built on the Zen 2 architecture, boasting 8 cores and 16 threads. It can run at clock speeds up to 3.5 GHz and 3.8 GHz (when in boost mode).

To construct a comparable PC setup, we’ll be opting for the Ryzen 7 3700X processor. This processor utilizes the older AM4 socket but shares the same 8-core, 16-thread architecture as the PS5. The chip operates at a clock speed of 4.4 GHz, which is notably faster than the PS5 Pro, helping to bridge the performance gap between the two. Notably, the PS5 Pro’s APU (the combination of both CPU and GPU) shares the same chip as the CPU. This new version offers nearly 60% more graphical power than the standard edition, thanks to its impressive 16 TFLOPs of computational capability.

As a gamer, I’d be leveraging the powerhouse RX 7800XT for an exceptional gaming experience. Packing a mighty 16 GB GDDR6 memory, this beast should easily manage most games at a stunning 4K resolution, even with AI upscaling cranked up to high settings. Crunching the numbers, we’re looking at approximately 37 TFLOPs of performance, thanks to its impressive clocks speeds and cores.

It could appear excessive to base your decision solely on these figures, but you should also take into account that consoles generally benefit from better optimizations, making lower numbers on a console more efficient than PC counterparts. The RX 7800XT retails for approximately $599 on Amazon, which makes it the priciest component in our build.

RAM 

On the PS5 Pro, 16 GB of GDDR6 memory is divided between the CPU and GPU, with 2 GB reserved for system functions and the operating system. However, optimizations in the console make the most of this memory. For PC builds, we recommend a high-speed 16 GB memory kit instead. The G-Skill Ripjaws 16 GB kit operates at 3200 MHz and costs around $46 on Amazon, making it an excellent choice. Running the memory in dual channel may limit future upgrade possibilities but should provide better performance compared to a single stick.

SSD

In the PS5 Pro, they’ve boosted the storage capacity from 1 terabyte to 2 terabytes, while keeping all other specifications unchanged. This current-generation console employs PCIe 4.0 SSDs, which are significantly quicker than reading data from a traditional hard drive. These high data transfer speeds offer developers many innovative avenues to craft fresh gaming experiences.

To achieve comparable performance to the hypothetical PS5 Pro, we’re opting for the Samsung 990 Pro in its 2TB version. This model boasts fast data transfer rates that are standard for such devices. At present, you can grab one with a heatsink on Amazon for around $160. While it may not be the most budget-friendly option, its performance should make it worth the investment.

Motherboard

In addition, we require a motherboard that works seamlessly with all our components. The Gigabyte B550M K fits this description perfectly and can be found for approximately $100 on Amazon. For our setup, we’ll require a Power Supply Unit (PSU) to run all our components efficiently. Case

In addition to that, we’ll need a case to accommodate our components as well. The Cooler Master MasterBox Q300L Micro-ATX Tower is an excellent choice due to its modern design, complete with a transparent side panel for easy viewing and generous space for cable management. It’s reasonably priced at around $40 on Amazon, offering excellent value for its stylish appearance.

Extra Fans

To ensure efficient operation and prevent overheating, we’ll be adding two additional fans from Arctic P12 PWM to our setup. One will be positioned at the rear, while the other will be in front. Each fan costs approximately $10, totaling $20 on Amazon. Though a small expense, it guarantees that our components won’t be compromised by thermal throttling due to excessive heat buildup.

HDMI Cable

When you unbox the PS5 Pro, it includes an HDMI cable. However, if you’re planning to build a PC, you’ll need another HDMI cable to link your display with the setup. Keyboard and Mouse 

For our everyday tasks, we’ll also require a keyboard and mouse set, but since we’re buying a controller to handle most of our gaming requirements, we won’t need to splurge much in this area. However, you can find a good quality keyboard and mouse set without breaking the bank – and the Redragon S151 Keyboard and Mouse combo is proof of that. You can grab it for approximately $36 on Amazon, making it an excellent choice for our needs.

Controller

Mentioned earlier, we’re planning to purchase a PS5 DualSense controller as well. Known for its superior ergonomics and precise tactile feedback, this controller will contribute to a more consistent gaming experience across different platforms. You can find it on Amazon for approximately $74, but the price may vary based on color options or limited edition versions.

OS: Windows 11 Home (64-bit) 

To play our games on your PC, you’ll need a copy of Windows 11 Home, which carries a price tag of approximately $140 for its license. While it may seem costly, this software is essential to set the game running smoothly.

Total Amount And Conclusion 

In summary, the sum of what we’ve talked about earlier equals $1526. To provide some context, the PS5 Pro is priced at $700, which means our PC costs more than twice as much.
