The use of Adobe’s Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, and Media Encoder on Copilot+ PCs and other Windows devices powered by Arm processors is set to receive a significant upgrade. These applications are now accessible in their native ARM64 versions during the public preview phase.
A significant number of computers powered by Snapdragon X processors have garnered favorable feedback, yet they often fall short due to app compatibility issues. Earlier this year, Arm (the company) revealed that users on Arm PCs spend more than 90% of their time utilizing native apps, but there are some notable exceptions.
The given data indicates the manner in which individuals employ computers that are based on Arm architecture. However, it fails to consider the scenario where certain users refrain from purchasing or utilizing a computer with an Arm-based processor due to potential compatibility problems.
It seems to me that it might be a bit of a misnomer to label the situation as an “app gap,” given Microsoft’s Prism emulation enables running numerous non-native apps. However, there are certain applications that either underperform or don’t work optimally when emulated, and some of them are simply unavailable on Windows PCs powered by Arm processors.
For a long time, Adobe’s creative applications were noticeably absent from running smoothly on Windows Arm systems. However, in May of 2024, Adobe committed to providing complete support for Windows on Arm. It took some time for the company to prepare these apps to run efficiently on Arm processors natively.
Arm-native, with limits
Adobe’s freshly introduced native Arm applications are a delightful expansion to the expanding library of top-tier native Windows applications for Arm processors. Nevertheless, there are certain constraints in terms of creative applications when these programs are operated on a computer equipped with an Arm CPU.
According to Adobe, the following Premiere Pro features won’t be included when the native Arm version of the app is released:

These are the features that will not be included in the native Arm version of Premiere Pro when it is released.
- Loudness Radar effect (Loudness Meter is a replacement for Loudness Radar)
- Export to Wraptor DCP
- Import and export of the GoPro CineForm codec
- Export to the P2 Movie format
Even after the app has completed its beta testing, those restrictions will still be in place. Additionally, some features that were not accessible during the public demonstration phase will become available in a subsequent update.
In the upcoming versions of Premiere Pro for Arm-native systems, we’ll include support for third-party extensions, ProRes, and various other formats. However, raw video files from multiple device types won’t be compatible with the Arm-native app until a future release.
In simpler terms, just like the final native version of Audition won’t accommodate GoPro CineForm or Loudness Radar effects, it will. However, this version is expected to add compatibility with multiple new formats and third-party tools in the future.
The effects related to Loudness Radar, exporting to Wraptor DCP, GoPro CineForm, and P2 Movie format won’t initially be available in the native Arm version of Media Encoder. However, similar to its Adobe counterparts, this app will eventually support third-party applications and a variety of additional formats.
It seems that the Arm-optimized version of After Effects doesn’t appear to share the same restrictions found in other applications, as Adobe only mentions forthcoming features without specifying any that would be absent in the Arm variant.
