“Captures the Essence of the Work”: Demon Slayer Star Sheds Light on the Best Anime Scene

Among many “Demon Slayer” fans, Kagaya Ubuyashi is often overlooked and undervalued, yet he stands out as one of the most admired characters due to his exceptional personality and qualities. As the head of the “Demon Slayer” Corps, he was universally respected within the organization, not just for his position, but also for his kind-hearted nature, soothing voice, and ability to comfort anyone’s troubled soul. However, his life was cut short due to a curse linked to Muzan Kibutsuji’s bloodline, which he un unfortunate carried. Despite his weak physical state, he continued to care deeply for the Corps members even when he could no longer move. The burden of this curse, which had been passed down through his family for more than a thousand years, filled him with deep resentment towards Muzan Kibutsuji and the demon progenitor’s lineage.

In the aftermath of the Hashira Training Arc finale in the anime, it was astonishing to witness the composure with which Kagaya engaged Muzan, his sworn enemy, given the animosity that seemed to emanate from his countenance. Remarkably, even Muzan struggled to harbor hatred towards the feeble and ailing man before him. Yet, what transpired next left Muzan utterly stunned, an event he could never have foreseen. With a shocking act, Kagaya detonated the Ubuyashiki manor, taking his life along with that of his wife and two daughters. This devastating action ignited the final confrontation against the demons.

Kagaya’s Voice Actor Shares Thoughts on the Best Demon Slayer Anime Scene

In a chat with Oricon, Toshiyuki Morikawa, the voice actor for Kagaya in the anime, discusses his experiences working on the series. A memorable scene from the anime involves Kagaya telling Muzan before destroying the mansion, “Eternity is found in human emotions. Human emotions give us an eternal and indestructible nature.” The interviewer questioned Morikawa about this moment and his thoughts on the character and the show. Morikawa expressed that he feels this line encapsulates the core message of the work, and the importance of Oyakata-sama (Master or Lord) uttering these words to Muzan cannot be overstated.

He went on to say, “What draws people most to this piece is its exploration of human feelings. It delves into abstract concepts like one’s connection to life, loved ones, and companions, focusing on these themes. I think it’s this aspect that truly captivates Demon Slayer. After all, human emotions are everlasting and impervious to destruction.

Following his encounter with Muzan, Kagaya understood that the demon yearned for everlasting life. For more than a millennium, the demon had been confined, able to roam freely only under the sunlight. However, Kagaya’s interpretation of eternity differed from Muzan’s. To him, humans, including his Corps comrades, whom he often called his offspring, were of immense importance and embodied his concept of eternal existence.

Kagaya held the conviction that humanity’s most powerful trait isn’t immortality, but rather the capacity to experience emotions and remember those who have passed on. The manga also emphasized his daily visits to the graves of fallen Demon Slayers, a practice he continued until his health deteriorated so severely that he could no longer rise from his bed.
