In the upcoming season 2 of “Wednesday,” we’ll see an impressive lineup of celebrities like Joanna Lumley, Steve Buscemi, and Lady Gaga joining the cast – but there’s speculation that one newcomer might step up to address a missing element from season 1.
Billie Piper, recognized primarily for playing Rose Tyler in Doctor Who, has landed the part of music instructor Isadora Capri.
In an interview with TopMob, Piper characterized her upcoming role as a highly skilled musician who finds herself teaching at Nevermore, possessing a captivating personal history.
Importantly, it’s been verified that Netflix’s series will see Isadora taking on the role of a mentor for the werewolf character, Enid Sinclair. This role seems particularly timely.
As the first season progresses, it’s increasingly clear that the beloved character Enid (portrayed by Emma Myers) lacks robust and nurturing connections, especially within her family, indicating strained familial ties.

In the fifth episode, we are introduced to Esther Sinclair, or Amanda Drew who plays Enid’s mother. It’s here that we gain insights into why Enid finds it challenging to embrace her werewolf identity. Instead of expressing joy upon seeing her daughter, she begins questioning and criticizing her, leaving no doubt about her disapproval towards Enid.
At a very troubling moment, Esther tries to persuade Enid to undergo a process she calls “werewolf transformation,” which is a not-so-subtle allusion to the harmful practice known as LGBTQ+ conversion therapy. It’s evident that Esther’s treatment of Enid causes significant and lasting damage to her daughter’s self-esteem and identity, resulting in Enid’s ability to transform into a wolf at will.
The contrast between Enid and Esther’s relationship and Wednesday and Morticia’s makes their story even more poignant. Even though the Addams Family is an unusual household, there’s always a strong sense of boundless love shared by Morticia and Gomez towards their offspring, which seems to be absent in Enid and Esther’s case.
Specifically, Morticia demonstrates immense devotion towards Wednesday, showing that she would travel as far as necessary for her child. This stands in sharp contrast to how Esther treats Enid.

Fortunately, Enid musters the courage to confront her mother, informing her that she will express her anger, or “turn into a wolf,” as she deems appropriate, rather than according to her mother’s schedule.
Another significant connection in Enid’s life is her friendship with Wednesday, yet this bond isn’t necessarily a positive or nurturing one, possibly because Enid has grown used to the way her mother treats her.
Essentially, their friendship primarily thrives on Wednesday frequently teasing Enid, yet Enid consistently maintains an optimistic view of Wednesday. However, it’s important to note that Enid isn’t afraid to stand up for herself and retaliate when Wednesday’s taunts come her way.
By the end of the season, it’s evident that Wednesday has developed genuine feelings for Enid (“I’ll retaliate if he hurts you”). Although their relationship might seem unusual or even harmful, Wednesday’s presence in Enid’s life ultimately proves beneficial, empowering her to assert herself against her mother.

However, the fact that Enid’s bond with Wednesday Addams stands out as the most robust relationship in her life suggests a lack of such connections previously – a low standard indeed, but one that highlights her need for stronger and healthier relationships until now.
Indeed, although it’s satisfying to observe Enid asserting herself against her mom, it’s equally disheartening to witness her consistently pouring herself into helping others, only to face critique, apathy, and blatant disregard in response.
It appears that the arrival of Isadora Capri signals a focus shift towards enhancing Enid’s character in season 2, with a likely exploration of her life beyond Wednesday as well.
While some viewers may hope for a romantic connection between Enid and Wednesday, an alternative path for season 2 might involve showing these characters growing independently and defining their individual identities beyond their friendship.
At the conclusion of season 1, Enid ultimately underwent a transformation, assuming her complete werewolf shape, which suggests that there’s much more for her to discover and understand about herself as we move into season 2.
As a movie enthusiast, if I were to envision a character to step into the spotlight, it would undoubtedly be Isadora – a seasoned and self-assured werewolf, brimming with wisdom from her own life’s journey. Given that Enid seems to yearn for a mentor of her own age, someone like Isadora could be just what this show needs to fill that void left by her mother.
The choice of Piper for this part appears symbolic of a positive change that Season 2 is embracing – a heightened emphasis on the female connections within the series.
In her latest statement, Ortega, who labeled the show as undeniably feminist, has affirmed that we can expect more shared screen time between her character and Zeta-Jones. This implies a significant increase in interactions between Morticia and Wednesday, offering fans a closer look at their relationship dynamics in the upcoming season 2.
Additionally, it appears that the character played by Lumley, who is cast as Wednesday’s grandmother, Hester, will have a larger part than initially planned. This suggests there will likely be extensive exploration of Hester and Wednesday’s past and their relationship in the production.
Indeed, the relationship between Wednesday and Enid is significant, and it appears that we’ll delve deeper into their intricate connection in season 2, experiencing both its promising aspects as well as potential challenges.
However, for the series to truly honor Enid’s character, it must carry on, and if it manages to provide her another significant romantic connection beyond her bond with Wednesday, it could be a remarkable success in season 2.
