And Just Like That…the world is saying goodbye to Carrie Bradshaw.
The creator of the series, Michael Patrick King, announced that the Sex and the City spin-off featuring Sarah Jessica Parker, which aired on HBO Max in 2021, is set to conclude after its current third season. This will be marked by a two-part finale, resulting in a total of 12 episodes.
Michael announced on his August 1 Instagram post that the ongoing tale of the ‘Sex and the City’ world is drawing to a close. As he wrote the final episode for season 3, it struck him that this could be an ideal spot to bring the story to a finish.
Michael clarified the reason behind their decision to disclose the surprising announcement halfway through the season, a decision made by him, Sarah (the actress playing Carrie since 1998), and other producers of the show.
As an ardent admirer, I’ve been eagerly waiting to share this news, but SJP and I wanted to savor the excitement of each episode before it was labeled as ‘the last’. After all, the joy lies in the journey, not the goodbye. With profound appreciation, we extend our heartfelt thanks to every viewer who welcomed these characters into their homes and hearts for so many years.
Reflecting upon the recent announcement, I, as a dedicated follower of the franchise, found myself reminiscing about my own role alongside the remarkable Cynthia Nixon (Miranda) and Kristen Davis (Charlotte). The enduring influence of my iconic character was something I couldn’t help but ponder.
For 27 years, Carrie Bradshaw has held a special place in my professional heart. As stated in an Instagram post from August 1, I believe I have cherished her more than anything else. Many others feel the same way about her, experiencing both admiration and criticism for her journey. The harmonious blend of these emotions has served as my most profound soundtrack and constant companion.
She also took a moment to shoutout Carrie’s onscreen companions—both old and new.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but express my heartfelt sentiment: Miranda, Samantha, and Charlotte are the best of friends, a bond that will forever remain unparalleled. It’s sheer luck for Carrie to have found herself surrounded by Seema and LTW, two divine new connections that enrich her life in ways beyond words.
To pay tribute to “And Just Like That” and “Sex and The City”, let’s revisit some of the show’s most memorable romantic connections…
Ugh, what an a–hole.
Best moment: N/A.
It’s tough to recall their charming, playful interactions at the start when they exchanged witty banter, considering the unpleasant, passive-aggressive behavior displayed by the author later on. HE LEFT HER A BREAKUP NOTE ON A POST-IT.
Best moment: None are coming to mind at the moment, Berger. We’re sorry, we can’t. Don’t hate us.
No one believed this relationship would last, right? Still, Samantha gave it the ol’ college try.
Most memorable instance: Following an evening spent with Carrie and her latest partner, where Samantha advised Big to step aside, Maria admitted to Samantha that they couldn’t simply be friends.
In the new show “And Just Like That…”, fans didn’t expect to see Miranda leaving her marriage to pursue a career as a stand-up comedian, moving cross-country.
A Noteworthy Incident: Undeniably amusing is the scene where Che and Miranda find themselves romantically involved in Carrie’s kitchen, all while a post-hip-surgery Carrie experienced an accidental bladder incident in her own bed.
Initially, the connection between this Russian individual seemed more like a fairy tale than reality…and indeed, it turned out that way. There were issues in terms of compatibility, as he found it difficult to get along with her friends, and Carrie’s spontaneous decision to relocate to Paris ultimately led to a disastrous outcome.
Most Memorable Moment: Following numerous over-the-top romantic gestures, Carrie was left breathless. Consequently, Petrovsky escorted her, resplendent in her fairy-tale dress, to McDonald’s. There, they shared a sweet slow-dance as they waited for their fries. We too found ourselves touched by this unexpected romance.
Initially, Trey appeared to be an ideal match for Charlotte on paper. However, flaws emerged in their relationship not long after they got married – issues such as an overbearing mother, difficulties in the bedroom, lack of desire for children, and a bizarre gift like a cardboard cut-out baby. One has to wonder, who does that?!
Most Memorable Incident: The special instance when Trey escorted Charlotte to Tiffany’s jewelry store, enabling her to select her ideal ring as a gesture of amends for the now-infamous “Alrighty!” remark.
In a surprising turn of events, the initial relationship for Samantha that didn’t revolve around sexual intimacy concluded due to, you could say, issues related to physical intimacy – specifically, James’ size in this area.
Best moment: When Samantha told James she loved him. A huge (no pun intended) moment for her.
Poor, poor Skipper. He was kind of like a Steve-lite, and Miranda was able to walk all over him.
Best moment: When he calls her “luminous” during their chance meeting at a bodega.
In the films, it was unexpected when Carrie’s close friend and Charlotte’s wedding organizer ended up becoming best friends, but it seems fitting to us somehow.
Most memorable moment: During their wedding vows, Anthony expressed, “Love didn’t strike immediately, but in reality, it was love. You were the first person to appreciate me for who I truly am as a man.
As a lifestyle expert, I must admit, Aidan was a fantastic individual, but he simply wasn’t The One for Carrie – no matter how much we both yearned to believe otherwise. But here’s the twist: Season two of “And Just Like That…” might just be the evidence that second chances are the most sought-after trend this summer. (Rest assured, we’re choosing to disregard their brief interlude in “Sex and the City 2”.)
Most memorable instance: Isn’t it peculiar that we found their second breakup scene, where they slept on the floor of an apartment they’d never share again, touching?
Discuss the predicament: Robert was nearly flawless, being an excellent physician for the New York Knicks and sharing the same taste in soap operas as Miranda. However, there was a single imperfection – he simply didn’t match up to Steve.
Most Memorable Moment: The moment they shared their first kiss, which was reminiscent of opening mailboxes. Alternatively, it could be when she took a day off work for him for the very first time. Lastly, but not to be forgotten, the time they both had chicken pox together.
Among all the male characters on Sex and the City, it’s possible that Smith Jerrod stands out as the finest. He exhibited remarkable patience and generosity towards Samantha, who fiercely resisted succumbing to love for the model-turned-celebrity.
One touching memory: Isn’t it heartwarming to reflect on the time when Smith bravely cut off his beautiful hair, symbolizing solidarity with Samantha as she battled cancer through chemotherapy?
Absof–kinglutely. (Curse you, Peloton!)
Favorite Moment: Can’t we all agree that the peak moment was when Big surprised Carrie by going to Paris to confess his true feelings for her? (Even though the bed fart/whoopee cushion joke never fails to bring a chuckle.)
In the same manner that Miranda’s affection for Steve crept upon her unexpectedly, our affection for this couple came as a shock, much like their separation in the first season of “And Just Like That…”. Long live Steve!
My Favorite Memory: The instant that encapsulates SATC‘s most effortlessly unpretentious pair, it was when Miranda unexpectedly proposed and they chose a simple, picturesque park wedding – truly reflecting their unique, harmonious bond. It was so them, it was just right.
Love sometimes surprises you at unexpected moments…for instance, when an unsuspecting attorney who happens to be handling your divorce turns out to be the ideal partner for you, providing unparalleled care and love as a parent to your children.
Most Memorable Moment: The slightly chaotic yet perfectly imperfect wedding ceremony. Since the commencement of the series, Charlotte had envisioned a storybook wedding; however, what she received was a lifetime of storybook marriage.
What truly matters in life is having a strong family connection. There are moments when you cherish them and others when you may not, but they remain the individuals who welcome you back at the end of the day. Sometimes, this family is the one you are born into, and other times it’s the one you create yourself.
Best scene: Initially, we considered portraying Carrie escorting Miranda during her mother’s funeral as the most touching moment. However, we felt it more fitting to depict a shared moment among all four friends. The chosen scene is when Miranda shows little interest in her wedding after learning about Samantha’s breast cancer diagnosis, with all of them pausing the celebration to support each other instead. This encapsulates the essence of friendship: prioritizing others over oneself.
