Celebrity Chef Paula Deen Closes 2 Restaurants

Paula Deen is closing up shop, y’all.

Previously prominent figure on Food Network, together with her sons Jamie Deen and Bobby Deen, declared the shutdown of their two restaurants located in Savannah, Georgia. This is the same location where she kickstarted her catering business known as The Bag Lady back in 1989.

In a statement posted on Facebook on August 1st, Paula expressed that she and her sons have made the emotional choice to close The Lady & Sons and The Chicken Box restaurants, effective from July 31st. She thanked everyone for the wonderful memories shared over the past 36 years and for their unwavering loyalty throughout this journey.

The 78-year-old, who is mother to Jamie (58) and Bobby (55), both born from her previous marriage with Jimmy Deen, also expressed gratitude towards their supporters who have stood by them throughout the last three decades.

As a devoted admirer speaking here, I’d like to express our heartfelt appreciation to each one of you who has graced our establishment. It is with deep gratitude that we acknowledge your presence, for you are the lifeblood that keeps our doors open.

Moreover, I must not forget to acknowledge our remarkable team, both past and present. Their tireless efforts, compassion, and warm hospitality are the very essence of The Lady & Sons, making it the special place it is today.

She stated, ‘Savannah remains our cherished hometown, and we’ll forever stand ready to bolster our remarkable community.’

Despite shuttering the two restaurant locations and deleting them from Paula’s website, the family plans to keep operating several branches of their other restaurant businesses.

Let’s shift our focus towards the four Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen restaurants situated nationwide, specifically in Pigeon Forge, Myrtle Beach, Nashville, and Branson. We can’t wait to revisit these eateries frequently, with our journey commencing at Branson on August 8th.

After the announcement, people observed that the windows at the Lady & Sons establishment were concealed with brown paper and notes were posted on the entrance stating, “With aching hearts and immense appreciation, we are announcing our retirement and closure,” as reported by CBS News.

In 2013, Paula found herself in a heated public debate after admitting she had used racial slurs, leading to her dismissal from the Food Network and cancellation of her program “Paula’s Home Cooking.” Following an apology, Paula has broadened her Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen business and now offers recipes on YouTube and her Fox Nation show titled “At Home With Paula Deen.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase it like this: Recently, I find myself reflecting on the latest TV show that has been pulled from broadcast, “Roseanne.” In a regrettable turn of events, Roseanne Barr posted a tweet equating Valerie Jarrett to an ape. Subsequently, she issued an apology, stating it was intended as a joke. However, the harm had already been inflicted, leading to ABC’s decision to terminate the series after only one revived season on air.

The popular reality TV show featuring Shawty Lo and his 11 kids, conceived with 10 different women, was abruptly canceled prior to its broadcast following a wave of public protest.

A show similar to “Survivor,” featuring children instead. At first glance, it might seem like an exciting television experience. However, concerns about the potential mistreatment of the participants arose, leading to its cancellation by CBS.

MTV ended the reality show Buckwild after Shain Gandee’s tragic death due to carbon monoxide poisoning.

The siblings, Jason and David Benham, seemed set for stardom on HGTV as their upcoming show was highly anticipated… until the network found out about their history of being anti-LGBTQ+ activists, which led to the cancellation of the program.

Back in 2014, you might recall a reality TV series featuring CeeLo Green, but if not, that’s likely because it was abruptly ended after only six episodes. The reason for its termination stemmed from some contentious comments made by the singer on Twitter regarding rape, as well as ongoing legal issues he was grappling with at the time.

The actor, Dustin Hoffman, was involved in a drama series produced by HBO. This series held all the elements required for success, but unfortunately, it was terminated in 2012 due to the tragic deaths of three horses during filming.

In 2013, Food Network chose to part ways with Paula Deen after she publicly acknowledged using a racially offensive term.

Over the course of my journey, I’ve been fortunate enough to enter numerous homes nationwide and engage with individuals who generously shared their heartfelt and intimate tales. This wouldn’t have transpired without The Food Network. Once more, thank you for this opportunity. Sending love and best culinary wishes to each one of you,” was Deen’s statement.

During its initial broadcast, The Cosby Show wasn’t canceled. However, starting in 2014, most networks stopped airing reruns of the show due to widespread news about rape allegations against Bill Cosby. BounceTV was an exception and began removing the show from their lineup later in 2018.

The long-running series, “7th Heaven,” was not terminated during its initial broadcast; however, reruns were discontinued following accusations that the main actor, Stephen Collins, admitted to molesting minors. Later, UP TV reintroduced episodes, but then withdrew them again.

2015 saw TLC ending the reality show “19 Kids and Counting,” which chronicled the lives of the Duggar family, following claims of inappropriate behavior, specifically sexual abuse, involving Josh Duggar.

In response to the recent focus on the Duggars, TLC acknowledged that this has ignited a crucial discussion about safeguarding children. They have been collaborating with victims’ rights organizations and advocacy groups, like RAINN and Darkness to Light, to explore how they can utilize this situation to tackle child sexual abuse. The network has also been in discussions with the Duggar family for the production of a one-hour documentary on this subject matter.

Nevertheless, the Duggars didn’t stay away from TLC for too long. A fresh show named “Counting On” was launched in 2015, focusing on their siblings (excluding Josh), until 2021.

A TV series called Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, which was a spin-off of Toddlers and Tiaras, focused on Alana Thompson and her family, including Mama June Shannon, her dad Mike “Sugar Bear” Thompson, and her three sisters. This series was a big success for the network. However, things took a turn when it was revealed that Mama June was in a relationship with a convicted child molester. TLC then decided to cancel the show in 2014.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d put it this way: “I’m sad to announce that the beloved series ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo’ has been terminated by TLC, effective immediately. The focus of our network will now shift entirely towards ensuring the health and happiness of those incredible children. Rest assured, we remain fully dedicated to maintaining their comfort and well-being at all times.

Later on, Mama June made an appearance on the reality show “Marriage Boot Camp”. Eventually, she secured a television program focusing on her weight loss journey and her family, titled “Mama June: From Not to Hot”, which debuted in 2017.
