Kowloon Generic Romance Is Getting a Live-Action Movie
As an observer, I’ve been eagerly waiting for updates regarding the live-action adaptation of ‘Kowloon Generic Romance’, which was initially announced back in December last year, preceding the anime’s premiere by four months. Lately, tidbits about the film have trickled out to fans of Mayuzuki’s manga. However, the wait is finally over as we now have our first glimpse of a full trailer, expertly encapsulating the diverse and foreboding atmosphere that characterizes the series.
The film version of the live-action movie is helmed by Chihiro Ikeda (known for “Insomniacs After School”), who teamed up with Kiyoto Wada to write the script. Notably, a significant portion of this movie was filmed on location in Taiwan, near the actual streets of Kowloon. The lead roles are played by Riho Yoshioka as Reiko Kujirai and Koshi Mizukami as her mysterious love interest, Hajime Kudou.
Not only does the trailer unveil the central motif of the movie, but it’s been disclosed that the Japanese rock band Kroi is responsible for the film’s main theme song titled “HAZE”. Kroi has previously contributed tracks to series such as Sakamoto Days and Bucchigiri?!.

The live-action version of “Kowloon Generic Romance” is set to hit Japanese cinemas on August 29th, 2025.
