Many films nowadays seem to rush through production, but some projects can take a long time before they’re finally released. One such project is the forthcoming movie titled Sketch. Recently at San Diego Comic-Con, Tony Hale, one of the film’s stars, was present to publicize it for Angel Studios. He was accompanied by his co-star Kalon Cox. The pair visited the Comicbook suite to talk about the upcoming film, during which Hale shared that he had been striving to make this movie happen for eight years.
As a passionate film enthusiast, I’ve been eagerly anticipating this movie for eight long years. It all started when Seth Worley, the talented writer and director, conceived the idea. I immediately fell in love with it and we began collaborating. Over those years, it faced numerous hurdles such as financing and producer changes, but it eventually transformed from a TV show to a movie. The journey was filled with complex special effects that took considerable time to perfect. However, I must say, the end result is truly remarkable. Kalon is not only hilarious, but also reminds me of timeless classics like The Goonies – a family-friendly film that resonated deeply with me as a child, and one that I believe will provide an enjoyable experience for all ages.

The fact that Sketch has traversed a lengthy path towards the big screen isn’t all that unexpected. Hollywood is well-known for its affinity towards proven successes, often opting for established properties with dedicated fan bases over investing in original ideas, which can be financially risky. Family films, in particular, are uncertain territories when it comes to box office performance. Fortunately, however, the film benefited from a highly motivated creative team who were resolute in their efforts to bring the movie to fruition and share it with viewers.
The movie “Sketch” was created by Seth Worley, who has predominantly worked on short films like “Adventure Now” and “Darker Colors” in the past. This production comes from Angel Studios, a self-reliant film studio that employs audiences to help determine which projects will eventually be produced. The studio strives to tell stories that emphasize light by offering an honest portrayal of human experiences, while also motivating its viewers. Other movies released by Angel Studios include “Sound of Freedom,” “The Last Rodeo,” “Homestead,” “Testament,” and “Brave the Dark.
The story in “Sketch” revolves around a young girl and her sketchbook. When her sketchbook accidentally ends up in a mysterious pond, the drawings within it magically come to life and cause havoc. As the drawings run amok, the town experiences chaos, while the young girl and her family race against time to contain the monsters that were never intended to be freed. In addition to Hale and Cox, “Sketch” features D’Arcy Carden, Bianca Belle, Kue Lawrence, Jaxen Kenner, Genesis Rose Brown, Randa Newman, and Allie McCulloch in the cast.
Sketch will land in theaters on August 6, 2025.
