A detailed look at Alan Wake 2, a game that previously highlighted some technical challenges, is once again showcasing the impressive upscaling capabilities of the PlayStation 5 Pro.
The initial release of Remedy faced criticism for visual issues on Sony’s powerful console, such as a grainy and flickering image. However, these problems have now been fixed with the PSSR 2 update.
As a fan, I’ve been really impressed with how much sharper the game looks now! Digital Foundry pointed out that even when you prioritize a smoother frame rate (Performance Mode), the lines in the game are clearer, and some of the textures actually look better – it’s a really nice surprise.
This survival horror sequel is a key test for PSSR 2 because it really pushes the system’s limits. The game displays at a resolution lower than 1080p, which means the upscaler has to work extra hard to make the image look clear.
The initial version of this process had several problems, but those have been largely fixed. The result is a final product that looks almost as good as true 4K.
Quality Mode doesn’t show as much improvement because the picture is already quite sharp. This means our processing doesn’t need to work as hard, but it still enhances the image and could potentially deliver even better results if pushed further.
This confirms what we’ve already seen and reported about the PS5 Pro’s latest update – it’s a strong improvement, suggesting positive things for upcoming games and even the PS6 down the line.
