A Man Who Threatened To Blow Up Disneyland Is Now Facing Federal Prison

Disneyland is a place where people go to have fun and escape into make-believe worlds. However, sometimes reality interferes and disrupts the enjoyment for everyone. As a popular tourist destination, there’s always been concern about a potential tragedy, and last summer, that concern almost became reality. Now, a man involved in the incident is facing criminal charges.

Threats Were Made When JD Vance Visited Disneyland

Last summer, Vice President JD Vance vacationed with his family in California, including a visit to Disneyland. Around the same time, someone threatened Disney on Instagram, claiming pipe bombs had been planted ahead of Vance’s arrival. Authorities have arrested Marco Antonio Aguayo of Anaheim, California, in connection with the threat, according to the Orange County Register.

Aguayo is accused of posting multiple messages connected to the original threat, including one suggesting good luck finding pipe bombs supposedly hidden at Disneyland Resort. Although no bombs were actually found, the threats were taken seriously and investigated. When Secret Service agents questioned him, Aguayo first denied making the posts, claiming his account was hacked. He later admitted to posting them, but said he intended them as a joke he’d forgotten about.

This is a serious offense. If found guilty, Aguayo could be sentenced to as many as five years in federal prison for making these threats.

Disneyland Has Been Popular Among Politicians For 70 Years

In 2025, Disneyland marked its 70th anniversary, and the celebrations are still happening today. Over the years, many political leaders have visited the park. For example, Richard Nixon was there to open the Disneyland Monorail when he was Vice President. In 1959, Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev tried to visit during a trip to the United States, but reportedly couldn’t due to security issues.

Last July, J.D. Vance brought his family to Disneyland, and his visit caused quite a stir. He was accompanied by Secret Service agents as he walked through the park with his children. I happened to be at the Disneyland Resort at the same time, staying at the Grand Californian Hotel and Spa. There was noticeably increased security at the hotel, likely due to the Vice President also being present, rather than any specific threat.

There’s no indication the threats stopped the Vice President or his family from having fun at the parks. He spoke highly of Disneyland Resort, especially enjoying the new Tiana’s Bayou Adventure ride. His positive comments are noteworthy, as the ride has been controversial since it was announced as a replacement for Splash Mountain. As for Marco Antonio Aguayo, his future remains uncertain.
