February isn’t usually known for horror movies – it’s typically a month for romance with Valentine’s Day and streaming services reflect that. October gets all the attention for scary movies and Halloween. However, if you’re someone who loves horror year-round, Hulu has a surprisingly good slasher film you might have missed.
The horror film Clown in a Cornfield, directed by Eli Craig, is coming to Hulu on February 10th. While it had a limited release in theaters last May, it actually did well at the box office and is worth checking out when it starts streaming.
Clown In a Cornfield Doesn’t Push Any Boundaries, But It’s a Ton of Fun
Clown in a Cornfield is a fairly simple slasher movie. It centers around Quinn, a young woman who moves to a small town in Missouri with her father hoping for a new beginning. They quickly discover the town is struggling after a major factory fire, causing conflict among the residents. Just when tensions are at their highest, a disturbing clown – the former mascot of the burned-down factory – appears from the cornfields and begins a killing spree.
One of the things that makes Clown in a Cornfield so enjoyable is that it doesn’t need to be overly complicated. The movie does offer an explanation for the clown, Frendo’s, killings, but it’s secondary to the overall craziness. Many of the characters aren’t particularly likable, which surprisingly makes the violence somewhat satisfying. The film also has a good sense of humor, with some genuinely funny moments as townspeople are pursued by Frendo. It’s a solid slasher movie that lets you enjoy 96 minutes of murderous chaos without demanding much thought. Plus, the ending is satisfying while still hinting at a possible sequel – which is great news, as the movie is based on a novel with two follow-up books.
Clown in a Cornfield hits Hulu February 10th.
