Warner Bros. has made it clear they’re dedicated to anime, and with their upcoming merger with Paramount/Skydance, fans are curious about what that means for their anime plans. Surprisingly, the Looney Tunes – Bugs Bunny and the rest of the gang – are getting their own anime series! They’ve been popular recently thanks to new projects, and while we don’t know when it will be released, here’s what we know about these classic characters venturing into the world of anime.
Looney Tunes Gokko is a new anime series that gives the classic Warner Bros. characters a much cuter look. “Gokko” means “pretend” or “make-believe,” and this series is aimed at a younger audience. It follows the format of other “Gokko” series like Tom & Jerry, and a Scooby-Doo version is also planned. Warner Bros. hasn’t announced a specific release date, but says the Looney Tunes are “coming soon” to WB Kids, featuring favorites like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Lola Bunny, and Wile E. Coyote.
The Looney Tunes Roller Coaster
The classic cartoons Looney Tunes have been making headlines recently, both positively and negatively. This year, fans can finally see Coyote Vs. Acme, a unique film that combines traditional 2-D animation with live-action actors. While Warner Bros.’ Looney Tunes characters have appeared in movies before – like Looney Tunes: The Day The Earth Blew Up released earlier this year – Coyote Vs. Acme is a different kind of project. Featuring stars like Will Forte and John Cena, the film originally faced cancellation by Warner Bros. as a cost-saving measure, but is now being released by Ketchup Entertainment.
Warner Bros. has been increasingly involved with anime lately. They’ve brought DC characters into the anime world with projects like Batman: Ninja and The Suicide Squad Isekai, and they’ve also worked on popular anime series such as JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Mob Psycho 100, and Food Wars. With anime continuing to gain popularity, it makes sense for Warner Bros. to adapt more of their iconic characters and stories for the medium, even with the upcoming merger with Paramount. It’s notable because there were earlier reports suggesting Warner Bros. might sell the Looney Tunes franchise, but Bugs Bunny and friends have seen a resurgence in a short period.
