In recent times, Superman has emerged as a crucial point in the DC Multiverse. A significant reason for this is the immense popularity gained by Superman following the 2025 release of a new series, which has only increased his fame. The DC Comics universe is currently engrossed in a major storyline, originating from the events of DC All-In #1 in 2024. This narrative centers around Darkseid, who, after sacrificing his minions and obtaining the power of the Spectre, launched an attack on the Justice League’s Watchtower. Although the Justice League managed to thwart him, his defeat created a tear in space-time. This fissure led Booster Gold, their foremost time traveler, to intervene. However, upon doing so, he was confronted by a new Legion of Superheroes, under Darkseid’s command. Now, Booster Gold has reappeared in Superman #29, and his role within the DC Multiverse seems pivotal.
The strategy of Darkseid to conquer the DC Multiverse primarily revolves around the Absolute DC Universe, but as shown in Superman #29, it’s much more intricate than that. The Darkseid Legion has been engaged in a war known as the Legion War in the future, targeting four multiversal iterations of the Legion of Superheroes. In this battle, Booster Gold, who has been fighting for two years, is revealed in Superman #29. Interestingly, Superman cannot recall Booster Gold at all; apparently, he’s been erased from time. This unexpected twist suggests that the seemingly comical character, Booster Gold, might hold the key to defeating Darkseid.
Booster Gold Is a Greater Hero Than Anyone Imagines
Booster Gold initially gained recognition in the famed “Justice League International”, though his debut occurred in a self-standalone series prior. Michael Carter, a 25th-century athlete, found himself in hot water for rigging games for personal profit and subsequently lost his job. Seeking more fulfillment, he stole Legion flight ring, a powerful suit, energy weapons, and a Time Sphere, taking robotic companion Skeets along with him to the past. Since then, Booster Gold has striven to become one of history’s most esteemed heroes by joining various Justice League teams. While frequently perceived as a joke due to his emphasis on popularity over heroics, this is somewhat misleading. Booster Gold has evolved into the genuine hero he previously feigned and does care deeply for others, as exemplified by his bond with Ted Kord, aka Blue Beetle II. Despite desiring recognition, Booster Gold’s true ambition lies in saving the world, proving that he is more than capable of doing so without the aid of the Justice League.
Following the events of Infinite Crisis, Booster Gold believed he would join the newly formed Justice League. However, the timeline shifted, and a new Justice League never materialized. Intrigued by these changes, Booster embarked on a complex mission that ultimately involved him in the creation of a new multiverse. This mission culminated in his clandestine efforts to thwart Shazam’s villain Mr. Mind, who morphed from a worm into a cosmic-devouring butterfly monster. Booster Gold carried out these actions covertly; indeed, part of his strategy involved damaging his public reputation for the greater good. He willingly gave up his public image to save everything. This marked the beginning of a new chapter in Booster Gold’s career, during which he collaborated with Rip Hunter, one of DC’s most influential time travelers, on numerous occasions, preserving both time and space. Booster has since risen to unprecedented heroic heights, as evidenced by Superman #29. When Superman encounters him, Booster reveals that he had fought the Darkseid Legion for a staggering two years without any help. The Darkseid Legion is exceptionally powerful; their members possess virtually every power imaginable. The fact that Booster was able to withstand them single-handedly for two years underscores his extraordinary abilities. What’s more fascinating, though, is that no one seems to remember him anymore. It appears that only one explanation makes sense: Darkseid understands the significance of Booster Gold in thwarting his plans.
Booster Gold Could Hold the Key to Defeating Darkseid
Superman manages to rescue Booster Gold, but then the Darkseid Legion swoops in, making life difficult for both heroes. The duo struggles against their formidable foes, leading up to a thrilling cliffhanger in Superman #29 (without revealing the suspenseful details here). Prior to the villainous onslaught, Booster Gold wonders why Superman intervened and doubts its effectiveness, claiming they’ve already lost. Yet, I believe their situation is not as dire as Booster Gold thinks, all thanks to his own actions.
In the first issue of “DC All-In,” Booster Gold ventured into the Omega Rift, a fissure that appeared following Darkseid’s defeat. Later on, in an episode of “Justice League Unlimited” titled “We Are Yesterday,” Gorilla Grodd attempted to seize the rift and harness its power, which is associated with Darkseid. Booster Gold was the initial person to enter this rift, potentially giving him new abilities or allowing him to elude detection by Darkseid and his legion. Due to his ability to move unnoticed through time, Booster Gold could be the key to defeating Darkseid. Throughout history, he has repeatedly saved the universe, and Darkseid may find him a formidable adversary.
