Right now, a zombie movie series is ruling the streaming rankings on Disney+, and it’s not one you might have anticipated. The Disney Channel’s “Zombies” film franchise has taken over the top four positions in Disney+’s Top 5. Since the first movie debuted on February 16, 2018, these zombie films have been hugely popular among young viewers. The initial premiere attracted 2.57 million viewers and a 0.46 rating for the crucial 18-49 age group, launching a new franchise for Disney. The latest installment, “Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires,” was released last Thursday and has quickly risen in the rankings on Disney+ to outperform Marvel Studios’ recently released “Ironheart.”
The latest addition, “Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires,” takes the lead. Coming in second is the original movie, simply titled “Zombies.” In third position is “Zombies 2,” and fourth place goes to “Zombies 3.” Marvel Studios’ “Ironheart” trails behind in fifth. This series, designed for younger audiences similar to the “Descendants” franchise, has gained popularity due to its engaging plotlines and memorable songs. Although Disney hasn’t confirmed a fifth Zombies movie, the franchise’s success indicates that one might be likely.
In the Disney series “Zombies,” Milo Manheim from “School Spirits” plays Zed, while Meg Donnelly, known for her role in “The Winchesters,” portrays Addison. The story revolves around a suburban high school that is disrupted when students from a zombie-inhabited town are enrolled. This town is recognized for its uniformity, traditions, and spirited pep rallies. Interestingly, the first movie was initially developed from an unproduced pilot called “Zombies & Cheerleaders,” which featured both Manheim and Donnelly.
In the sequel, we delve deeper into the relationship between central characters Addison and Zed in “Zombies 3”, as they grapple with the complications brought by werewolves. The story takes an unexpected turn in “Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires”, as the series introduces vampires, adding a new twist to the already fantastical universe. Notably, “Zombies 4” is the first film to take the characters outside their school environment, sending them on a road trip and introducing them to fresh challenges – Daywalkers and Vampires.
As a fan, I can’t help but speculate about the potential of a fifth installment in the Zombies series, given the intriguing ending of Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires. The hints of a water element and the possible introduction of mermaids, another fantastical creature that seems to fit seamlessly within the world of Zombies, have me excited about what’s next. It remains to be seen how these aquatic beings might interact with the vampires, werewolves, or zombies, but I can only imagine the exciting possibilities for the franchise’s continued growth and success.
Stream all four Zombie movies only on Disney+, as there hasn’t been any official announcement about a fifth movie from Disney yet. However, with the franchise performing exceptionally well on Disney+, it might not be long before we hear more. In addition, don’t miss out on Zombies: The Re-Animated Series, available now on Disney+.
This version maintains the original meaning while using simpler and more natural language.
