
1997 marked the debut of ‘Twin Town’, a film often compared to ‘Trainspotting’ released the previous year, but with a Welsh twist. Featuring Rhys Ifans at the beginning of his acting journey, it centered around Julian and Jeremy, two brothers who opted for a life of drugs and car theft. A wrecked vehicle caused by their mischief sparks a chain of events, ultimately leading them to fulfill their late father’s last wish while continuing their destructive antics involving marijuana, stolen cars, and revenge. There was anticipation for a sequel to ‘Twin Town’.
In this production, Welsh actors like Huw Ceredig, Di Botcher, the late Brian Hibbard from The Flying Pickets (“Ba da da da!”), David Hayman, and Dougray Scott (who later became the villain in Mission Impossible II) were part of the star-studded cast. Rhys Ifans subsequently gained recognition for his versatile roles in films such as Notting Hill, which solidified his stardom, Kevin & Perry go large, Noy Only Bit Also (exceptionally playing the late great Peter Cook), The Amazing Spiderman, and La Cha Cha, directed by Keith Allen. This film was a moderate success, and discussions about a ‘Twin Town’ sequel have been ongoing since then.
