It’s been an interesting year for Shonen Jump manga – we’ve seen quite a few new series start, but also several end their run. Now, it looks like another one might be finishing up soon: *Ping-Pong Peril*. I started reading it when it launched this summer on July 6th, and it really put a unique spin on the game of ping-pong. The story centers around Tairo Mikado, a 16-year-old who’s going through a tough time. After his mother passed away, his father left him and his twin sister burdened with a massive 1 billion yen debt.
Tairo is struggling with debt collectors when he meets Mutsuki, who introduces him to the competitive world of ping-pong. He discovers an underground tournament called Ping-Pong Peril, where the stakes are high and anything is allowed. Tairo quickly proves to be a natural, winning matches and earning increasingly large prizes, starting at a million yen and rising to five million yen per game. However, his latest match took a surprising turn when his opponent wagered a massive 986 million yen. While this raises the tension and suggests Tairo might finally face defeat, he’s currently winning. If he succeeds, it could fulfill his ambition and potentially end the series. Some believe this dramatic turn of events is due to the publisher wanting to conclude the series.
Shonen Jump’s Latest Sports Manga Seemingly Heads Into Its “Final Battle”
Kataoka Yoshiharu’s manga, Ping Pong Peril, is heading towards its climax, beginning with next week’s issue #47 of Weekly Shonen Jump.

A fan on X (formerly Twitter), @WSJ_manga, has pointed out that *Ping-Pong Peril* may be nearing its climax, potentially starting next week. This seems likely, as the current match between Tairo and his opponent is almost over – just two points remain. Tairo is currently winning, and the latest chapter (Chapter 13) shows him predicting a desperate play from his opponent: serving the ball across the busy Shibuya Crossing, even if it means running into traffic, all in an attempt to win. This suggests Tairo will emerge victorious in the next chapter, bringing his total earnings to 994 million yen.
It’s possible the recent storyline is a distraction, suggesting Tairo only has one opponent remaining after his latest victory. The people running the *Ping-Pong Peril* game are starting to show themselves, and Tairo’s final match might be against them, which could explain how this chaotic game began. However, it looks like *Ping-Pong Peril* is nearing its conclusion in the next issue of Weekly Shonen Jump. While the ending feels a little hurried – each ping-pong match had the potential to be truly special – it’s rewarding to see the story progressing toward the hero achieving his goal.
