Aaron Paul to make surprising return to Invincible for season 5 – after previously quitting “gruelling” show

Fans might see the return of Powerplex in Invincible season 5, a character who played a significant role in season 3. While character reappearances are common in the show, the actor reprising the role is the surprising part.

It appears Aaron Paul will reprise his role, rather than the part being given to a new actor like has occurred with other characters.

Paul, known for his roles in Breaking Bad and BoJack Horseman, hinted at a new project on Instagram. He posted a photo of an Invincible script with the caption “Some light reading,” suggesting he’s joined the cast.

TopMob has reached out to Prime Video and Paul’s representatives for comment.

People would be surprised to see Paul return because he stated on the Kinda Funny Games podcast in November that he’d turned down the chance to be in season 4. He explained he didn’t want to come back due to the stress and emotional difficulty he experienced while playing Powerplex.

Paul shared that after appearing in a few episodes, he was asked to return for the next season. However, despite being a huge fan of the show – he watches every episode and really loves it – he found the experience emotionally draining. He explained it was incredibly intense and took a toll on his mental well-being, and he has a lot of respect for the work everyone involved is doing.

You know, playing Powerplex was really challenging. He’s a deeply troubled character, going through a lot internally. I really tried to understand him, to become him, and honestly, it was uncomfortable. It got to the point where I was struggling with the role and didn’t want to continue, it was affecting me that much.

You know, I really appreciate everyone who was part of that project – they’re all incredibly talented people. But honestly, the experience just didn’t work for me personally, and I had to step away. It wasn’t an easy decision, but it was the right one for me.

Season 3 brought us Scott Duvall, also known as Powerplex, a scientist motivated by tragedy. His sister and niece were casualties of the fight between Mark and Omni-Man.

Driven by a desire for revenge, he stole high-tech devices that let him turn movement into electricity. After a fight he lost to Mark, a tragic accident led to the death of his wife and son, making his resentment towards Invincible even stronger.

Paul isn’t just taking on one new project; he’s also reportedly going to be in season 3 of Fallout, although his character hasn’t been revealed yet.
