You play as the “Wings of Theve,” a renowned fighter pilot known throughout the world as a legendary hero capable of completing even the most dangerous missions. But the latest trailer suggests someone might be falsely claiming the identity of the Wings of Theve, which will likely lead to complex political conflicts and personal betrayals.
The latest installment in the Ace Combat series, Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, was revealed in December 2025 with a trailer. The game’s story will center around the player assisting the FCU in reclaiming their country from the Republic of Sotoa.
Over the past few months, we’ve learned more about the game’s development. It’s being built using a special engine created by the studio, alongside Unreal Engine 5. This combination allows them to create incredibly realistic clouds that actually affect gameplay – for example, by reducing visibility during exciting air battles.
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve is significantly improving its storytelling. Instead of traditional cutscenes, all in-game cinematics will happen in real-time from the player’s perspective, letting you look around and fully experience the environment.
