Fans were saddened to hear that the popular Adult Swim series Smiling Friends is ending, despite being renewed for two more seasons. Creators Michael Cusack and Zach Hadel recently announced the show will conclude after just two remaining episodes. Adult Swim has since released a statement addressing the show’s cancellation and sharing their thoughts on the decision.
Adult Swim has released a statement expressing their deep appreciation for Michael and Zach’s work on Smiling Friends. They celebrate the show’s unique and innovative style, emphasizing that Adult Swim thrives on supporting creators’ visions – and Smiling Friends wouldn’t have been possible without the co-creators’ creativity. While they’re sad to see the series end, they fully support Michael and Zach’s decision to conclude the show with its final two episodes on April 12th, and hope to work with them again in the future.
The Smiling Friends’ Grand Finale

Adult Swim has announced the final two episodes of Smiling Friends Season 3 will air in April. They’re titled “Friend-Bot (Version 12589218731809213528796879521)” and “Charlie’s Uncle Dies and Doesn’t Come Back.” While these aren’t intended as a true series finale, they will give us one last look at Charlie and Pim. The creators, Cusack and Hadel, may return to the show eventually, but there are no immediate plans to continue the series.
In case you didn’t hear about it, the creators of Smiling Friends recently shared why they decided to end the show. Michael Cusack explained that after finishing Season 3, he and Zach both felt exhausted from working on the series for so long, but also proud of what they’d accomplished. They both simply felt it was a good place to stop.
Although Smiling Friends will conclude in April, Adult Swim has plenty more new seasons of popular shows on the way. Both Rick and Morty and Ha, Ha, You Clowns have been renewed for multiple seasons, ensuring a strong lineup for the Cartoon Network block. And, as Adult Swim consistently develops original content, we can expect announcements of new shows in the future. However, it will be difficult for any series to reach the same level of success as Smiling Friends.
