I’ve been watching Adult Swim really shake things up on cable TV lately. For years, they’ve given us amazing original animated shows like Rick & Morty and The Smiling Friends, but they’ve also been surprisingly good at bringing back shows we thought were gone. They’ve shown they’re willing to give cancelled projects a second chance. And now, in a really unexpected move, a show that originally aired on Netflix and then finished its run on Cartoon Network is coming back – and it’s happening sooner than anyone expected!
The animated series Tuca & Bertie, about two bird friends in a world with human-like qualities, originally premiered on Netflix in 2019. After one season, Netflix cancelled the show, but it was rescued by Adult Swim, which ordered two more seasons. Unfortunately, Cartoon Network cancelled it again in 2022. While no new episodes are being made, Tuca & Bertie will be back on the schedule starting Monday, April 13th. It will replace Ha Ha, You Clowns at 1 AM Eastern and air Mondays through Thursdays for the time being.
Tuca & Bertie’s Potential Return

When Tuca & Bertie was cancelled in 2022, creator Lisa Hanawalt shared a heartfelt message. She thanked fans for their support and encouraged them to continue creating fan art and dressing up as the characters. Hanawalt also expressed her gratitude for the creative freedom Adult Swim provided and praised her talented team, stating she was proud of the show’s meaningful and unique episodes.
Hanawalt shared that she knows how she wants to end the series, giving Tuca and Bertie the satisfying conclusion they deserve. While she hopes they’ll eventually get to finish the story, she’s continuing to create and tell similar stories, inspired by the deep connection viewers have with the show. She’s determined to keep sharing these kinds of narratives, regardless of whether the series continues.
If you haven’t seen it, this animated series is a funny and unusual look at everyday life, following two bird friends as they deal with common struggles. Though visually striking, the show really shines in how it playfully explores relationship issues, work problems, and all the little things we face. Currently, you can watch the first season of Tuca & Bertie on Netflix, and the following two seasons on HBO Max.
