After 11 Years in Development, Glitch’s New Animated Show Just Passed 20 Million Views In Less Than 2 Weeks

Australia’s Glitch Productions quickly became a major animation studio thanks to the success of The Amazing Digital Circus. Created by Gooseworx, the series gained over 1 billion views on YouTube and was among the top five most-watched shows on Netflix worldwide just two weeks after its release in October 2024. Building on this momentum, Glitch has expanded its projects, teaming up with creator Ross O’Donovan and writer Arin Hanson to produce Gameoverse. This 2D action-comedy follows Kit (voiced by Erica Lindbeck) and her sidekick Kaboodle (voiced by Jschlatt) as they jump between video game worlds that are falling apart. The idea for Gameoverse started as a web series O’Donovan published on Newgrounds in 2009. It went through many changes over the next ten years and was turned down by several major studios before Glitch Productions decided to make it.

The first episode of Gameoverse premiered on Glitch’s YouTube channel on May 15th and quickly became a hit, exceeding 11 million views in just four days and reaching 20 million views in under two weeks. The launch sparked a huge wave of fan creations, memes, and conversations online, solidifying Gameoverse as a standout animated debut this year. Creator O’Donovan shared that working with Glitch helped him create the best version of the show possible, representing the culmination of over ten years of work.

Will Gameoverse Follow in The Amazing Digital Circus‘s Footsteps?

The Amazing Digital Circus has quickly become a huge success, proving that independent animated series can thrive online. It started with a popular debut on YouTube, then Netflix partnered with the creators in a unique deal – new episodes continued to premiere on YouTube while also being available on Netflix. Now, Glitch Productions is bringing the series to the big screen with The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act, a finale event that has already earned over $7.5 million in US pre-ticket sales and will be shown in 2,000 theaters starting June 4th. What’s remarkable is that this web series, which began on YouTube, is selling out cinemas, and the same episode will be available to watch for free on YouTube just weeks after its theatrical release – a completely new phenomenon.

Glitch, the company behind the popular 2D series Knights of Guinevere, is expanding to YouTube with Gameoverse. Knights of Guinevere quickly gained over 18 million views after its release in September, leading to a full series order. Gameoverse reached the same milestone in under two weeks, thanks in part to the existing audience of Arin Hanson (O’Donovan) from Game Grumps, a well-known gaming channel with over 6 million subscribers. The original Gameoverse shorts, first released on Newgrounds in 2009, also contributed to the show’s growth. Given its success, a full series order for Gameoverse is likely. With Glitch’s experience in distribution and its ability to partner with streamers, the show has the potential to become a major hit, similar to The Amazing Digital Circus.

Gameoverse is currently streaming for free on the Glitch Productions YouTube channel.
