After Fantastic Four: First Steps, This Long-Rumored MCU Project is Even More Essential

In the year 2025, a much-anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe project, titled “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” promises to deliver an exciting new take on Marvel’s legendary First Family. This film introduces audiences to the latest incarnations of Mr. Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Human Torch (Joseph Quinn), and the Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as they make their debut in the MCU, centered as Earth 828’s primary superhero team. Facing off against one of the universe’s most potent villains and his formidable minions, we eagerly look forward to witnessing their thrilling on-screen exploits.

In the movie “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” Galactus, portrayed by Ralph Ineson, sought to capture Franklin Richards, and was assisted by Shalla-Bal’s version of the Silver Surfer, played by Julia Garner. This formidable character derives her powers from the Cosmic Power bestowed upon her by Galactus, enabling her to endure in the emptiness of space, travel at incredible speeds on her silver surfboard, and accomplish numerous remarkable deeds. The Silver Surfer’s entrance into the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been well-received, making it exciting to imagine her reappearance in a Special Presentation. Rumors suggest that such a production centered around the Cosmic Wanderer could indeed be on the horizon.

MCU Fans Deserve The Long-Rumored Silver Surfer Project

To date, Marvel Studios has produced merely two Special Presentations – “Werewolf by Night” from 2022 and “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special”. It was assumed that Marvel might have moved away from this format; however, it appears that The Punisher (portrayed by Jon Bernthal) will make a comeback in another Special Presentation set for release in 2026. This resurgence in the Special Presentation format has left fans hopeful about the possibility of The Silver Surfer receiving her own hour-long special. With her impressive abilities showcased, hints at her background offered, and her unresolved storyline from “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”, there is much potential for a Special Presentation to delve deeper into her story.

In 2022, there were rumors that a unique showcase featuring the Silver Surfer might take place. At that time, it was anticipated that Norrin Radd, the Earth-616 Silver Surfer from Marvel Comics, would be introduced in the MCU. In contrast to Shalla-Bal, who assumed the role of Galactus’ Herald in the Earth X timeline. Previously, Norrin Radd had been portrayed by Doug Jones and voiced by Laurence Fishburne in 2007’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. However, Garner’s performance as Shalla-Bal has made us really appreciate Marvel Studios for choosing a different approach.

In the comic series, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, the Silver Surfer showcased some extraordinary abilities that warrant further investigation. Delving deeper into her past, particularly her selfless act of sacrificing herself to save her planet, would add depth to her character. A Special Presentation could be an ideal medium to retell this compelling narrative in a captivating manner. The finale of The Fantastic Four: First Steps depicts Shalla-Bal making another selfless sacrifice by propelling Galactus into the teleportation bridge, leaving her story with a cliffhanger-like ending. This suspenseful conclusion presents an excellent opportunity for a Special Presentation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s future.
