The anime Akane-banashi is set to premiere this Spring, and a new trailer has revealed its release date and where it will be available for streaming in North America. As one of several major anime adaptations coming from Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine this year, Akane-banashi stands out because it will be released in a unique way compared to other Shonen Jump anime.
The anime Akane-banashi was originally planned to premiere in Spring 2026, but now has a confirmed release date of April 4th in Japan. Instead of being available on a typical streaming service outside of Japan, all episodes will be released for free on the official YouTube channel for viewers in North and Latin America. Details about streaming options in other countries will be announced soon. You can find a new trailer and poster for the anime below.
Akane-banashi Confirms April 2026 Release Date With New Trailer
The anime Akane-banashi will premiere in Japan on April 4th. After that, episodes will be available to stream on YouTube for viewers in North and Latin America. Details about wider international availability and the timing of those releases are still unknown. Unlike many other anime, Akane-banashi hasn’t been picked up by a major streaming platform, so fans are eager to see how it develops and how it will be distributed.
I’m so excited – the new trailer just dropped and we got a sneak peek at the opening theme, “Hitotarashi,” by the incredible Kuwata Keisuke! Plus, the Japan Society is hosting the world premiere of the Akane-banashi anime in New York on April 1st, and tickets are available now! The team behind it is amazing too – Ayumu Watanabe is directing at studio ZEXCS, with Yu Harima as assistant director. Kii Tanaka is handling the character designs, Michihiro Tsuchiya is writing the scripts, Kikuhiko Hayashiya is supervising the Rakugo performances, and Akio Izutsu is composing the music – seriously, this is shaping up to be something special!
What to Know for Akane-banashi’s New Anime

The upcoming anime Akane-banashi features Anna Nagase as Akane Osaki, alongside Takuya Eguchi as Karashi Nerimaya, Rie Takahashi as Hikaru Koragi, Jun Fukuyama as Shinta Arakawa, Nobunaga Shimazaki as Maikeru Arakawa, Chiaki Kobayashi as Koguma Arakawa, Yohei Azakami as Kyoji Arakawa, and Seiichiro Yamashita as Guriko Arakawa. The story centers on Akane, who begins performing Rakugo to uncover the reasons behind her father’s humiliation and exile from the Rakugo world.
Akane-banashi isn’t a mainstream anime, which is likely why it hasn’t been picked up by major streaming platforms. However, releasing it for free on YouTube is a fantastic way to reach as many fans as possible. This should also be a big boost for the traditional Japanese art of Rakugo, and we’ll get to see it all unfold this spring.
