Alex Vesia is keeping his loved ones close.
Following the heartbreaking loss of his newborn son, Sterling Sol Vesia, Los Angeles Dodgers player honored his family by using a special baseball glove during his first game back.
During the game against the Arizona Diamondbacks on March 27th, 29-year-old Alex was spotted with a dark pink glove. Commentators noticed the glove had his partner Sterling’s name on it, and her birthday written inside.
And there’s more – as a tribute to Kayla, who is also 29 years old, the first letter of her name was stitched onto the ring finger of the glove.
One day earlier, Alex reflected on returning back to the sport that he loves.
He shared on Instagram on March 26th that while his objectives remain the same, his approach and reasons for pursuing them have evolved. He also expressed gratitude to those who have continued to support him.
He said Dodgers fans will bring a lot of enthusiasm, adding a heart emoji. He also promised to make someone named SSV proud.
And Kayla also touched on the “very bitter sweet” MLB Opening Day.
She shared on Instagram on March 26th how much she missed her daughter, Sterling, writing that she always carries her in her heart.
Alex is returning to baseball after a five-month absence. He initially stepped away from the Dodgers to deal with a difficult family issue right before the 2025 World Series. Shortly after, his wife, Kayla, shared the sad news that they had lost their baby.

The professional baseball player recently shared details for the first time about how he and his wife—who married in January 2025—are dealing with their sadness.
During a press conference on February 13th, Alex shared, “We’ve learned how quickly life can change. In just ten minutes, we experienced a devastating loss. Our daughter, Sterling Sol, was a joy to us – we cherished every moment holding her, caring for her, and loving her. Though our time with her was brief, Kay and I will hold onto those special memories forever.”
He expressed hope that people would understand and respect their need for privacy while they recover and deal with the challenges of the baseball season.
