Science fiction fans have plenty of movies and TV shows to enjoy. Over the years, series like X-Files, Dark, Black Mirror, and The Twilight Zone have explored unsettling themes and pushed the boundaries of the genre in creative ways. Streaming services are offering both new, dark series and revivals of classic shows. Recently, one platform has made a popular science fiction series from Fox available to watch for free, giving a new generation a chance to experience all five seasons.
The sci-fi series Fringe first aired on Fox in 2008 and ran for five seasons, totaling 100 episodes, before concluding in 2013. Though it doesn’t get as much attention as The X-Files, Fringe is a fantastic show worth watching. All five seasons are currently available on Pluto TV, a popular streaming service from Paramount. Created by J.J. Abrams, Alex Kurtzman, and Roberto Orci, the show stars Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson, John Noble, and Lance Reddick. Which Way Forward, Fringe?
If you haven’t seen Fringe, it’s a show about an FBI team that investigates strange and unexplainable cases involving unusual science. While it shares some similarities with The X-Files, Fringe really stood out with its incredibly inventive and shocking storylines. Throughout its five seasons, the show balanced self-contained episodes with an overarching story about the characters battling a mysterious group called the “Observers.” The series has a satisfying conclusion, but fans have still talked about the possibility of bringing it back.
Back in 2020, Akiva Goldsman, a producer on the show Fringe, discussed the possibility of bringing the series back with Collider. He said the producers had spoken with Warner Bros. about continuing the story, but they couldn’t come up with a good plan. He wasn’t sure if a revival was still possible, saying it wasn’t happening at that time. Now, six years later, it looks like Fringe will likely remain a single-season show. However, with the show recently gaining popularity again on Pluto TV, it might attract a new audience and generate enough support for a future return.
