Next month, a popular vampire horror series will be removed from Netflix, along with a lot of other content. The show is based on a character originally created in Bram Stoker’s classic novel.
Van Helsing leaves Netflix in April
Starting April 16, 2026, all five seasons of the series Van Helsing will no longer be available on Netflix, according to What’s on Netflix. The show, based on the Helsing graphic novels by Zenescope Entertainment, follows Vanessa Van Helsing, the daughter of the famous vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing.
The story starts with Vanessa regaining consciousness after a coma, finding herself in a world destroyed by supernatural creatures. She has a unique ability – her blood can change vampires back into people. As the series continues, Vanessa and her friends face increasingly dangerous enemies.
Neil LaBute created the Syfy series Van Helsing, which first aired on July 31, 2016. He led the show as showrunner for three seasons, until 2018, when Jonathan Walker, one of the lead writers, took over. The series concluded on June 25, 2021, with the final episode, “Novissima Solis,” after a total of 65 episodes.
Kelly Overton stars in the show as the main character. Jonathan Scarfe, Missy Peregrym, Christopher Heyerdahl, David Cubitt, Vincent Gale, and Rukiya Bernard are among the actors who play supporting roles.
Van Helsing received generally mixed reactions. Critics on Metacritic gave it an average score of 54 out of 100, while viewers rated it 5.1 out of 10. On Rotten Tomatoes, the show has an average audience approval rating of 57% over its five seasons.
Abraham Van Helsing is a famous character from Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel, Dracula. He’s portrayed as a highly knowledgeable Dutch doctor and professor, with expertise in law, philosophy, science, and—most notably—vampires. The character has remained popular for over a century, inspiring numerous adaptations, including the 2004 film starring Hugh Jackman.
