All 7 KPop Demon Hunters Songs, Ranked (Now That It’s The Movie of 2025)

Just over six months ago, Netflix released a movie that quickly became a huge success. Before its release, almost no one knew about KPop Demon Hunters, but the show’s fantastic songs, captivating story, and lovable characters turned it into Netflix’s most popular movie of all time – a remarkable achievement.

Although many new movies have come out since then and are likely to receive more award nominations, none have had quite the same impact as KPop Demon Hunters. For a lot of people, it’s the clear frontrunner for best film of the year, and there’s been a lot of discussion about why. The music played a huge role in its success, and fans have been debating which song is the best ever since its release. Now that I’m convinced it’s the year’s best, I’m sharing my opinion.

I’m leaving out the instrumental score and the alternate version of “Takedown” from the credits – I’m only including the original songs by Huntr/x and Saja Boys.

7. Takedown (Huntr/x)

It’s not surprising that the song which feels most out of place in the movie is also the least popular. “Takedown” isn’t a bad song, but it doesn’t quite fit the overall feel of Huntr/x, and its lyrics aren’t as memorable as the others. The song’s impact is limited until the fake Mira and Zoey perform it, and it feels incomplete – we never quite get a full, satisfying version.

6. How It’s Done (Huntr/x)

Huntr/x’s “How It’s Done” is a stylish opening track, but it doesn’t quite stand out among many similar songs. It immediately establishes the fast-paced, exciting atmosphere of the action, which was a surprise to me going in. The song’s energy perfectly reflects the thrill of the aerial battles, and it effectively introduces the three main characters and their roles within the group. While it’s a strong introduction, it doesn’t have the emotional resonance that develops as the story unfolds.

5. Soda Pop (Saja Boys)

If I were ranking these songs based purely on how often I listen to them, “Soda Pop” would win by a landslide. I loved it even before I saw the movie, and I think it’s a cleverly understated take on the K-pop industry, while also being a fantastic pop song. It doesn’t have the same layers of meaning as some of the higher-ranked tracks, but that’s intentional. And honestly, every song from this point on is a five-star song in my opinion.

4. Free (Rumi & Jinu)

The next installment of KPop Demon Hunters absolutely needs to continue the story of Rumi and Yinu, or fans might be very upset. A lot of this depends on how well the current story, “Free,” develops their romantic connection. Romantic longing is hugely popular right now, and combining that with an enemies-to-lovers storyline and a fantasy setting is a guaranteed hit. Especially when you add stunning performances from talented actors – that’s when you create something truly special.

3. What It Sounds Like (Huntr/x)

“This is What It Sounds Like” has the most compelling introduction of any song on the album. It begins with a raw, emotional vocal performance by Rumi, and is gradually joined by Zoey and Mira before the music even starts. This build-up emphasizes their determination to fight against Gwi-Ma and the Saja Boys. The song then blends electronic dance music with powerful vocals, creating an incredibly energetic and captivating sound. It’s a close call, but I often debate whether this song or “Golden” is better. Both are excellent, though “Golden” is slightly more memorable and easier to sing along to.

2. Golden (Huntr/x)

“Golden” became incredibly popular, even before most people had seen the movie it’s from – largely thanks to a hugely successful TikTok trend. TikTok users would describe it as a fantastic, energetic song that blends different styles, features unexpected shifts in melody, and boasts truly impressive vocals. It’s a song that’s likely to remain popular long after the film is forgotten, which is a real achievement for those who created it. However, it’s not necessarily the best song on the soundtrack.

1. Your Idol (Saja Boys)

It might be considered a bit controversial to choose a song other than one by Huntr/x as the best, but “Your Idol” feels more complete. There’s just a natural coolness to villain songs in musicals, and that really shines here. This isn’t meant to diminish Huntr/x or their song “Golden” – I simply love the song’s opening, which reminds me of monastic chanting.

Unlike both “Soda Pop” and the other Huntr/x tracks, “Your Idol” really highlights the distinct qualities of the Saja Boys’ voices. Like all the songs on this soundtrack, the vocal performance is flawless. And in a strangely perfect way, the final line, “Can I get the mic a little higher?”, feels almost spiritual.
