Amazon Luna Will No Longer Support Third-Party Stores or Subscriptions on June 10th

Amazon is making some changes to its Luna gaming service that some users might not like. Starting June 10th, you won’t be able to buy or play games on Luna that weren’t purchased directly through Amazon. This follows their recent decision to stop supporting older Kindle devices.

If you bought games through the EA App, Ubisoft Connect, or GOG, they won’t work on Luna anymore. Luna is removing the feature that allowed you to play games purchased elsewhere on June 3rd. Unfortunately, if you bought any games directly through Luna’s store, you won’t receive a refund.

This also includes subscriptions like Ubisoft Plus and Jackbox Games. You can still play these games – and others from different companies – on most platforms, but not on Luna. Luna only offers games available through its Standard plan (included with Amazon Prime) and its Premium plan, which costs $9.99 per month.

This change might be easier to accept if it hadn’t happened so soon after the initial rollout. It seems Amazon noticed a lot of customers were choosing games and services from other companies instead of using its own subscriptions, and it likely wants to focus its resources on supporting those subscriptions instead.

This is another concerning development for Amazon’s gaming division. Several key changes have occurred recently: Christoph Hartmann, the head of Amazon Game Studios, left the company. Additionally, Maverick Games, a studio made up of former Forza Horizon developers, lost its publishing agreement with Amazon. Last December, Amazon Games Montreal and their upcoming game, March of Giants, were sold to Ubisoft.
